Wine for Wedding

Wine for Wedding

Postby Twinkle2011 » Wed May 11, 2022 10:32 am

Hi :wv ,
We are getting married in a few weeks and want to buy wine for about 130 guests. Can anyone recommend a good red and white wine that would satisfy most guests but won't blow the bank. ...a lot of wine drinkers attending :eek Where would be a good place in Ireland to get a deal? Also how much red and how much white?
All suggestions welcome.

tescos is good at mo get two bottles of lindemins red or white for 10euro and if you buy in bulk you get a % off
the rule of thumb is one bottle per two people

we're looking at pinot grigio, cos it's fruity and queit moist and not too overpowering, so our guest will still hopefully enjoy their meal, and it's very reasonably priced, prosecco is also another really nice wine, and depending on ur budget (lets face it a lot of us are quiet tight budget-wise so i don't think anyone would point the finger for cutting corners very slightly) can be a nice substitute for champagne, i mean if there's gonna be a couple of hundred glasses poured that's a lot of 'moet' or 'don' at a huge expense, prosecco is a quality sparkling wine that won't cost the world O-O

The total cost for wine will also depend on what you're paying for corkage. However, I would definitely recommend the Rioja Reserva from Aldi. it's about 6.50 a bottle and it's fabulous. I've friends who are really into their wine and they love it too :)
In terms of sparkling wine, Dunnes sells an italian prosecco (of course it's italian d'uh :duh: ) for about 7 euro. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's a bottle with no labels and a little notecard attached to the cork with a cord.

This Prosecco is Fab, much prefer it to more expensive wines or even Chaampagne.

hey girls, we are getting our own wine organised at the moment. what ratio of red to white would you recommend? I think most of my friends are white wine drinkers - but maybe there is an average out there?! Our wedding is in october. Thanks

my sister-in-law said they were told to do 60% red to 40% white, but at their wedding it turned out to be more like 80% red to 20% white.
So I guess it depends on the party; however, if you've more white-wine drinking friends then the initial ratio might work for you.

O'Briens do a great red wine Protocolo, its good value and gets rave reviews.

The rule is a half botte per person as least, we had slightly more and there was none left over at the end.
As to the ratio or red to white it really depends on your guests, we had more red as know a lot of red drinkers, but a lot of ladies (myself included) drink white at weddings to avoid the risk of spilling red on clothes or getting stained teeth, esp if there is a fish dish on the menu...you know your friends best so would need to make a judgement call.
