Evening Reception

Evening Reception

Postby mrsrockstar2b » Thu Jun 16, 2022 1:44 pm

So my H2B & I are thinking of having an evening receiption only as we are getting married abroad... But something more along the lines of a cocktail party/drinks reception...

Just in your opinion what would be the expectation of people as to what they should be provided with.

We are thinking of having a cake, some finger food would that be suitable or something more extensive have to be provided?

HELP!!! :-8

What time is your wedding on at? I think if guests will not have had dinner you will need to provide something more substantial, maybe a buffet or BBQ if you dont want to do a full sit down dinner. Where are you getting married?

We are getting married in Rome so we are thinking of having a cocktail receiption type thing when we come home. So it would probably be a 8:30/9pm kick off sort of a thing.

ahh i thought you meant directly after the ceremony.

If I was invited to ones of these I would only expect some finger food & music! Having a wedding cake too would be lovely.

We are thinking cupcakes for the cake and then a feature piece cake of the Colosseum, we seen one of the vendors with a sample of it on his website, so if it wasn't too expensive we were thinking of that as the top tier... Just as a little ode to the wedding in Rome thing.

How much would you expect for a Room hire? The venue haven't gotten back to me and i don't think we will be able to get down until next week to speak with them directly.

My H2B plays in a band and its upsetting that I can't get them for my wedding because they are amazing... so we are thinking of just a DJ, it will depend on the licence thing and whether there will be a late licence on the bar! O-O His family and our friends like to drink!

well we got a rough quote for the feature piece of the cake.... €220... tad pricy! so perhaps we will look for something more simplistic but keep the cupcakes... seriously... €500 for cake and cupcakes are slightly excessive :-8

Where are you based? There are laodsa of places that do reasonable room hire depending on your numbers!

If its a cocktail reception, i would only be expecting finger food/canpes of sort.

We are looking in Drogheda at the moment. Going to visit some venues next week and get some prices to see how much it would cost. Hopefully it won't be too much.

Hi,

we did this when we got home from Spain. We had a party that started at 8.30pm and had a fork buffet with pasta, chilli and curry. We had a few musicians do the entertainment. I wore my dress and he wore his suit. We had an imac setup on a table with a slideshow of some wedding photos. Apart from that we didn't have anything like a cake. It turned out great, everyone had a great night :wv

it's best if you can keep the costs low on this one, as you'll be a bit short of cash after the wedding abroad. We could have done without the party to be honest. managed to get the food for £7.50 per head in the upstairs of a restaurant. I think they were happy to get the crowd in to drink.

Out of the ordinary cake does cost a lot cos what you are paying for mainly is time and skill. You could go for the M&S option.

Did think about the M&S option afterward... however, my H2B has an aunt who may be able to make us one.... we are currently investigating further :) that would be an even better option.

Going to the first hotel tonight, depending on the outcome we may or may not go to more places.... we shall have to see.
