Odd question re: Wedding Cake....

i've already posted this in Old Faithful, for more traffic, but thought this would be the most appropriate forum!!


we're looking for a cake model - as in a styrofoam version of a cake, which can be put on display in the hotel, and the "real" cake will just be in the kitchen

see, the reason is my SIL is hoping to make it for us, and she doesnt feel confident in icing a cake herself, so to avoid putting pressure on her, i was saying if we could do this, she wouldn't be killing herself to make it uber perfect for us....


would anyone know if you can rent them somewhere, or where you could get one either!

You might be able to hire one from any of the bigger cake suppliers who would have showroom dummy cakes on display. It isn't really that common here compared say to America and Canada where it is often done so that they can have a really elaborate looking cake without spending the money. It would be more common to have a dummy tier or two in a cake for various reasons, size or style.

To be honest unless your SIL is dire at decorating the cake it will be a waste of money, what type of cake is she making, fruit, chocolate ? If it is not fruit would you consider decorating it with the chocolate curls, these require very little skill and combined with some ribbon and flowers or fruit would look grand.

If you prefer the more traditional style of sugarpasted cake with a very simple style then if might be more difficult for her but not impossible. Flowers and ribbons can be a great cover up,

we used a fake cake for the pictures and made our own cakes
it worked out bout 80 the is a cake decor shop in Clane and we got the stuff there and a cake maker iced it for us
