No Starter - Opinions please?

No Starter - Opinions please?

Postby missussunshine » Mon Aug 22, 2022 1:18 pm

Hi ladies, just wondering what people think of not having a starter? We are doing a buffet dinner in a marquee and we'd like to go straight into dinner. On arrival guests are getting bubbles and nice filling finger food to keep them going.
We could really swap the dessert for a starter cos we're having cupcakes so could serve them as dessert? Would it bother anyone if they didnt get a starter?
thanks :thnk

Hey Sunshine - wouldn't bother me as long as there was enough food on the buffet to keep me going. Sure if anyone is starving they can go for seconds!

Thanks MissF.. I think its fine meself too and the chef said he'll do two runs with the dinner food and a second calling so shouldn't be any empty bellies at the end of it.

I think that sounds great. It's often more hassle then it's worth for guest to have a starter at a buffet. You're hopping up and down all the time.
If I was a guest, I'd be delighted with finger food and loads of buffet food.

My first thought when reading the title was that the starter would be missed but now after reading your post and seeing it's a buffet I don't think it will be missed at all. As another poster said people may not like having to queue up twice and the finger food on arrivel sounds lovely :wv

I first thought it would be better to have a starter, but reading that its a buffet then I don't think it would even be noticed as its totally different.

Sunshine, do you mind me asking where your reception is? I love this idea but am minding it hard to do.
The meal is such a boring part of the day and if you have big wedding unless you pay big big money, the food is only ever very mediocre!
Thanks.
