Looking for Dessert Buffet style...??!

Hi all

All the buffet offers I've seen seem to be the whole meal with hardly any desserts. I am looking for a dessert buffet as I think it'll create some fun and get my guests (who don't know each other) to mingle before the drink kicks in! I don't want lollypops and wrapped sweets and all that - I want desserts? Don't want 1 big cake either as everyone will just get a piece and sit down again...Anyone have any suggestions please!

was thinking of something like this, my mam really does bake the bestest cakes, so we were thinking to get her to do loads of our favourites. but think it might be a bit much work for her to do it the few days before the wedding, she says she'll see!!! but you could have loads of your favourite mini-cakes/cupcakes surrounding a cake for you to cut (if you want to cut one!).

But she said she didn't want cake, just desserts.

That spread is a lovely idea but before you get your mother baking like mad check that the hotel will allow you provide that type of food, a lot of hotels will not allow food that does not come from a HSE certified kitchen on their premises. Now maybe your mother is registered etc but if not definitely check first.

As to the desserts, there is always a problem with providing a dessert type buffet as most desserts need refrigeration so unless the hotel has suitable display area where they can be left out for a while and kept cool it is difficult to organise this. A lot of the dessert table ideas on the net are actually not really what I would call desserts (nice gooey creamy confections) but are more cookie, cake, cake pop, sweets type things as obviously again they dont need refrigeration.

i love this idea...in general i'm not a fan of food being buffet style at weddings, it's like survival of the fittest getting trying to get in to see whats on offer....horrible hate it!
However for dessert only i think it works because people head up at different times, some people finish quicker than others, some like to wait for their cup of tea etc etc so i think buffet for dessert is a great idea becasue you'd have more choice and like op said it's a chance to mingle before the party kicks off.
my concerns would be
1. will the hotel allow it and would they have someone there serving to people and help make sure it doesn't get messy as people go up to help themselves (you know how cake sometimes falls apart)

2. Would the desserts be ok to have out on display, if the room was very warm and you'd anything with fresh cream it could be luke warm by the time dessert time comes and there's nothing worse than warm whipped cream....yeuk!
