Getting rid of the soup?

Getting rid of the soup?

Postby redgp » Mon Oct 24, 2021 1:40 pm

Hi all, :wv

Just wondering if anybody considered getting rid of their soup course? I just think soup and a starter is too much and I'd be afraid that people would be too full to enjoy the main course. (Which has happened to me in the past!!). Do you think people expect a soup?!

Would appreciate some thoughts!!

Thanks! :o)ll

I've only every gotten 1 starter at a wedding, so I wouldn't think twice about it.

It's true, too much food can make your guests feel stuffed and uncomfortable.

I got rid of ours and got a choice of starter as well. My Dad was horrified but nobody needs that much food.

I was down with our hotel the other day, just talking about a few things one of which being whether or not to offer a few extras on arrival ie sandwches and bitesize traybakes, along with the arrivals the hotel are doing ie mini scones, biscuits and chocolate dipped fruit, I just feel I would like to offer people a lil more than a mere nibble as its an early mass (12.30) and its a long time from your breakfast to you get your dinner at 6pm!

But after talking to John he suggested that we bring our soup course forward have it on arrival instead of having it with the dinner! as its a winter wedding (28 Jan) I think this is a great idea something warming when you arrive and not such a heavy dinner I think this is an overall winner!

Soup on arrival for a winter wedding is a great idea!

We are having starter, soup and sorbet. Craziness if you ask me but that's what he wants!!

I totally agree. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding with soup as well as a starter. Maybe a sorbet to cleanse the pallet but I honestly don't think it's necessary!

I think this is a brilliant idea!! I have often found myself in the reception area of a hotel counting down the minutes till dinner! Bonus points for John :custum59

i love soup (2nd time to say that this evening!) but I do find it heavy at a wedding so unless its totally delish I try not to eat it all and save myself for the main.

we having sorbet course instead and its a june wedding.

that is a super idea with serving soup on arrival to guests. brilliant

What a great idea serving it on arrival! As most people wont have lunch before hand so something to "line the stomach" with aswell

Would people be standing around with bowls of soup though? Might be a bit messy to manage.
I would get rid of the soup and serve some sandwiches when people arrive.
