Just wondering if anyone has or is having tesco wine for their wedding? We are thinking of it but don't want to appear scabby either!

hiya
most of my friends all puchased from tesco lidl n aldi for der wedding im looking to pg in tesco at d mo for ours lidl doing case deals til thur on cimirosa merlot lookin at reviews for it LOT LIK IT plus itd half d price of rosemount plus with this recession a drinks a drink plus it'll b with food so wont really b tasting it

We used that merlot for our wedding along with a chardonnay. Got tons of compliments on it which was great to hear and it only cost around e20 for the case of 6 bottles.

I used to work in a wine shop for a few years and believe me in general Irish people are not very sophisticated with there wine, we like to think we are but we're not!

Aldi and Lidl have some super wines, there is a red australian shiraz cabernet that Lidl sell for about €21 for 6 bottles every few weeks, its a great wine and has a bronze award from Decanter who would be a fab publication, Pedro Jimenez is a reasonable white that would be a crowd pleaser, but i personally prefere there pinot grigio.

Tesco and Dunnes have amazing ones from more suppliers and price ranges, I would personally say anyone who spends over €7 on a bottle is being over generous and wasting money unless you have alot of friends that are sommelier's or very well to do and are only used to a certain grape etc. if your afraid of guests being put off by a scaby looking label take the labels off or get the waiting staff to serve them, with a cloth around them and if a guest asks whats the wine get the staff to tell them the grape and country, they dont need any more info.

Do a good bit of tasting and research the wines, and you'll find a perfect one for between €4-€7 the more you buy the cheaper you should get them for, Tom Dorley often has mentions on twitter and in his news paper article of cheap good wines. Happy hunting.

anyone know if tesco demi sec would be suitable for drinks reception, tasted it a few months back and thought it was nice, but then i dont drink sparkling wines and find champagne to harsh. Was thinking of using this as its a summer wedding and it seemed light enough. says tesco on the bottle though, is it normal for the bottles to be left out at a drinks reception

25% off when you buy 6 bottles of wine or champagne until 13th Dec, seen it today.. My wedding is not until next Summer wonder is it too early to buy? Did you buy a tesco own brand wine after
