Trying to get prices down!!!

Trying to get prices down!!!

Postby Tina Lou » Wed Feb 08, 2022 4:10 am

Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to bring the price of my wedding down!!! I would be quite shy and trying to get the hotel we want to bring down prices is failing me O:|
It would be for approx 250 guests and the cost of the wine alone is working out at almost 2000. :ooh
I have considered bringing my own - but i would be afraid of running out of either red or the white! The corkage is 9.00, if i could bring this down somehow i would take the chance of doing so!
I dont want to be annoying the manager that Im dealing with so should I just stay quite and pay it?? :duh:
I would love feedback on even how to approach doing so!
Thanks :wv

Hey there, I completely understand. Im organising from abroad and find it really hard to ask for money off, esp over the phone. I have gotten 2euro off corkage but it's still 10euro. Still Corakge is usually the cheapest way to go and I wouldn't worry too much about running out of wine. The hotel should offer you some advice on how much wine to get for your number and what % of white to red usually works for a crowd. Also you should be able to get a supplier to agree to take back unopened cases, and keep a couple additional cases of each in the back, advising the manager not to open unless they check with you/appointed friend (as you dont want to be worried about it on the day). But is a great way for you to relax.
All the best. I have no other tricks, only friends have advised me 'have no shame' and keep asking all the way up to the end. Even a few weeks out, a friend's groom got the corkage down to 5e in the last weeks! Also with your numbers you should have some bargaining power..the 'the guests will spend a lot in the bar' card!

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply! How did you manage to get the €2 off??? O-O Id be so happy with that! I said to them all ready that they would make it at the bar and I was told they can knock it off at the end. I would rather if they did it now :weep Soo stressfull and its only the start !!!! :duh:

I know every little helps with big numbers. It's hard to remember because i did alot over emails and phone calls rather than in person. I think I told them that an award winning similiar hotel (with higher stars) in the region was charging less (true) and really pushed my numbers. Our guests will be a lot of young people in 20s/30s, incl rugby & football teams, and it wont be just old family members. I think they knew they'll make it up at the bar, and they will!
It is horrible asking but just try, ..the costs are mounting (which they probably are) and you may have to reduce numbers unless you can make some savings. I dont really believe in lying but may have to plead your case. It hard,I did ask for other things and didnt get it, but I asked again and again, and still didnt get some things but keep trying :)

Tina Lou

Where else are you trying to cut costs? Flowers? Dress?
I am cutting costs on Flowers by doing them myself, instead of favours we're having a table comp thingy where the winning table wins a 200e bar tab, cheaper than favours!
AND
I am 'considering' a second hand dress. Going to try on lots in a few months and then pick my fav, if I can see it 2nd hand I am thinking of checking it out. I know it would horrify some brides but id rather have my dream dress that was 2k/3k and get it for 1k secondhand than getting a new 1k dress im not that interested in!
My H2B is okay with me getting a 2k/3k dress but he is right when he says 'i'm trying to think how I could spend 2k/3k on one thing, for one day, for one person', other than crashing an un insured car he couldnt think of anything. It made me think, he doesnt know im considering a 2nd hand dress, and i might not even tell him if I do get it 2nd hand for fear he's tell someone!!

I don't get married until may2013 so dont have many other ideas for you! Good luck!
