Buffet for the Reception??

Hi,

Have any of you had a buffet for the reception? If so how did that work out? Are you happy you did it? What kind of feedback did you get?

Thanks, HB2B.

I'm having a buffet main course as I think it's nice to give people a chance to move around and chat to people not sitting next to them. Also it is a choice of main course so it allows people to see what they're choosing plus I hate the scenario of waiters and waiteresses walking around offering vegetables and interrupting converations.

I'm hoping the caterer will make sure that the tables go up in some sort of order so that the queue isn't massive! Fingers crossed!

We originally wanted a buffet. Our hotel told us that what they do is seat everyone then bring one table at a time up, to avoid the mill!!! We decided to go for a sit down in the end as it wasn't too much dearer and it will keep the oldies happy

I think it depends on the style of your wedding. We were at a wedding last year in an estate house. The wedding was really laid back and casual and the buffet really suited the mood. The only thing was they ran out of food.

At the end of the day you should do what you want...you can't please all the people all the time

My best friend did this for her wedding in Belfast a couple of years ago. To be honest I ( and everyone there ) thought it was great. It was really "them" as in it got everyone off the seats, moving around, chatting etc..I have to add that it wasn't a big wedding - probably about 60 in total - but it worked really well. Must say it was one of the best weddings I've ever been to. Gave everyone the chance to mix and talk - then it followed with everyone not being shy with one another on the dancefloor etc!!!

only concern is the older relatives..... or people coming on their own. If you still do a seated plan then it might work - but then you are not really taking any of the organising away.
Somebody suggested before for the younger cousins, brothers etc to be designated to look after oul aunts and grannies so that they are seated and get a selection of food.

We were going to go with it but we are having 180 and I think it will crazy so have gone for the sit down meal. It was the same price.

You wouldn't want to be easily offended with MRS05 about
We had a buffet and I don't think anyone would have come away from our day thinking we were cheapskates
Starters were served at the table as were deserts and tea and coffee.
We had a choice of roast sirloin of beef, honey baked ham, fillet of salmon or sundried tomato and leek tartlets
Groom and I were led out to the serving area first and we chose, then the rest of the top table and then 2 tables at a time. There were two serving stations so there was no big mill to get to the food and there were only about 70 of us so it didn't take long. Staff were on hand to assist people bringing their plates to their places where necessary.
People thought it was brilliant, they had a choice, or could choose to have a bit of everything and they were actively encouraged by the staff to go back for seconds.
For us it was the only practical way to offer a choice and to cater for different people's tastes; the vegetarians, the people who only eat fish, the people who don't reat red meat, the people who only eat red meat...! be warned that pricewise there was little difference between our option and the standard starter, main course desert. I'm glad we did it and I really think it's the way to go and if it's well organised and the food is good then I don't think anyone is going to think CHEAP!

scotty that sounds fantastic. I havent been to any buffet weddings myself but h2bs company had a buffet at the hotel where we are getting married about a two years ago and it was absolutely brilliant, even though we are going for the sit down meal this buffet was one of the reasons that made me pick the hotel. There was great choice and it was really well presented and there was mountains of food. As you said there is very little difference in price between sit down and buffet food. People who have very negative reactions to buffet probably havent been to one in a venue catered by real professionals.
