Personally if no evening guests, I doubt people will notice, maybe leave the cake til a little later & that might work with tea/coffee or you could just not do that either.Really people are stuffed with the main meal!

Hi Suzie,

There has been loads of discussions on here about this particular topic. My personal opinion is that if you feed people a 4 or 5 course meal they should be full. If they need more, send them to a chipper!

In the end its up to you!

Snap Mrs05 - we're doing the same as you.

Again we've no evening guests and to be honest we didn't even consider not having the bite of food in the evening. Just as well we didn't think of it cos there's enough to be thinking of as it is! Thinking about it now though I do think that people would notice if you didn't have something. I do agree that putting on a 4/5 course meal should be more than sufficient but I do think people would expect something light later in the evening.....might help with the alcohol soakage! Again though, as has been said - entirely up to the couple

Yeah, would agree with you. We're going with a 1pm start too. Have you your timings (for meal, band, DJ) sorted? Do the hotel do this? I don't know and didn't want there to be long gaps with people having to hang around say between meal and band. Oh the worry of it all  - there'll be nothing left of me as my mam keeps saying :) !

I have no idea Lara...trying not to think about it until march when we see the hotel. The only thing that is worrying me is that the band have to start at about 8.30-because the music must end at 1a.m,so in order to get the moneys worth out of the DJ-he mush start at 11.30pm...
Oh god will this be time enough for the meal etc...surely if its 1oclock

Right lets see:
Church 1-2.30pm
Photos 3.30-4.30
Dinner 5.30-8.30

3 hrs for dinner that seems ages...people will be bored

our wedding is at 1 also. hotel told us the latest we can sit for our meal is 4.30  so..will be fun trying to figure out how we will time things..i do know that i would like some pictures (weather permitting) as the sun is setting as the hotel is set on a cliff so it will be gorgeous..so that will be after the meal and speeches etc. hopefully the mass will be under or around an hour..forgot to ask the band how long they play for!

i don't know. the manager just told us that the latest we can sit for the meal is 4.30..and i didn't question it i presumed it was the norm, though after joining this site i realise it's not! i guess we probably won't actually be served until about 5ish. it does seem a bit odd dosen't it!

Yeah it is a bit odd alright because surely there are often evening functions at this hotel. But sure what can you do.

I know they normally try to have the wedding meal over and done with before their restaurant starts to get busy. Our Hotel is pushing for us to sit at 5pm which suits me fine, they told us to allow 3hrs for dinner and it would probably be around 10pm when the band would start, thought 2 hrs was a long time to clear up, but sure what can you do?? But gonna give the afters food a miss cos they'll only do it before the band starts and there's no way people will be hungry 2hrs after a big meal. If they'll do it around One I'll go for it, I'll probably be hungry by then myself!!!

God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece

In a previous life I used to work in hotels. I found that the general guide was that the meal would be actually served one hour after the "sit-down time".. a sit-down time of 5.30pm would usually end up with the meal being served at 6.30pm
