Wedding Cake..

I booked my cake a few months ago and paid a deposit of half the cost. I rang my cake woman today and asked her when we would meet up to discuss everything and she told me that the cake i picked would not be big enough for my wedding.
I am only having 120 sitting for the meal which from what i can gather is not a big amount. They will get dessert with the meal.
I also wanted all chocolate but she is saying that i should have fruit. I don't want fruit as nobody will eat it.
How much cake is needed for this amount of people?
After paying my deposit have i any rights of getting my money back or would i be better off to stay with this woman. I paid €260 already.
Sorry about the long post. Kinda p***** off at the moment.

Lets make it very clear. This is YOUR wedding & you are paying the bill. Before we get all militant though, it might be an idea to think about what your cake lady said.

If you want a stacking cake (i.e. the layers all on top of each other), a totally sponge or chocolate cake won't be able to take the weight and will collapse into smithereens. Trust me.

Oldies love a bit of fruit cake. That's probably why she's suggesting having a tier of that. You don't have to listen to her, but remember that you can slice it & wrap it for people who don't get to come to the wedding. Sponge will go stale.

A 2 tier cake is plenty for 120 people if not served as dessert. I had a 3 tier - half of which wasn't touched - for the same amount of people. By 2-tier I mean 10 & 12 inch layers, not 8 inch layers which feed about 30-40 people

Does that help you see things any clearer? If not, I apologise for butting in and you can go off & scream at the cake lady!

The cake i was going to have is a 3 tier. And i said to her to maybe do one fruit but she said it wouldn't work.

it sounds like the lady was trying to change your mind for her sake.If you want a pink cake with yellow bows on it and she told you when you paid your deposit that she could do this then i too would be a happy bunny.
Get back on her and say what you want and if she is still suggesting to change then ask for your money back :D

I understand what mrs.moo is saying to you and you should take that on board also,ive no idea how much cake will be needed as im not married yet im getting a 3 tier cake for about 140 guests!

Well then she's talking out her arse (pardon the expression)

I had a fruit top layer, chocolate middle & sponge bottom layer. All were iced with some marzipan underneath the icing & there was no problem.

It sounds as if she couldn't be bothered. Sit down with her again & if she can't supply what you are looking for, ask her to refund your deposit and find somebody else.
