Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant

Things the books don't tell you about being pregnant

Postby Mrs Bambi » Mon Nov 15, 2021 10:03 am

Hi girls,

We are TTCing for no 3 and I was just thinking about how many things I didn't know about on my first pregnancy which knowing made the second pregnancy so much less stressful. Thought it would be fun to make a list of all the things the books don't tell us about being pg!

Here are a few of mine;
Morning sickness does not necessarily mean you throw up you can just be green for the first 14 weeks

Most people do get period like cramps in the first 12 weeks and they scare the life out of you .....actually stretching pains and yes you do get them on subsequent pregnancies (however do talk to your gp if you feel there is a problem)

Every woman's weight gain and bump is unique to them you are not any of the following; too small, too big, too round, not a big enough bump, there is nothing wrong with you or your baby so ignore these people's helpful advice.

I could go on but would love to hear other pregnant women's experience

Great idea, Mrs Bambi and I totally agree on these two!

Mine are - rather than craving things, you will really go off random things (like meat with sauces for me) and your patience is shot to bits - at the beginning anyway, hopefully it'll come back! DH says I'm alot more short tempered at the moment than I usually am and two of my friends who're much further along both said how surprised they were by how little patience they had for eejits!

Also, you may be surprised by how much you suddenly don't want to share your news. It can be really nice it just being you and your DH or your DH and your parents knowing and you might actually want to keep it that way! (I thought Id want to shout it from the rooftops!)

You can poop when giving birth :-8 DD swears I didn't though... hhmmm... :o0

When baby gets hiccups it's the most amazing thing!

YOu still look pregnant after you give birth! I remember feeling so skinny the next morning and then saw myself in the mirror and I still looked heavily pregnant :weep

Your boobs can leak when pregnant - and if they don't it won't effect your supply later on!

You will eventually be able to sleep the night again without having to pee all the time!

Stitches 'down there' are not that bad! It was the one thing I was dreading and it was fine. You've way too much else to be worrying about afterwards.

MS is like a really bad hangover without all the fun the night before :hic I had mine til I was 16 weeks :o(

Hee hee you can poop I did and NO YOU DON'T CARE so stop worrying about it !

Patience unfortunatley doesn't really come back til you are at least starting to get sleep so bub 2 was about 5 months before that happened ....however it is worse on first pregnancies.

No-one told me about piles either sweet god they bloody hurt didn't have them on No 1 def had them on no two couldn't sit down for at least the first month not fun but get proctosyl suppositories they are the business !

No one told me I would need a crane to get out of the bed once I hit 6 months was huge!!!!

Do not decide that clearing every cupboard in the house out is a good idea and then go into labour two hours after u've emptied everything

No one told me how neurotic I would be about No 1 and its only when u have no 2 that u realise it LOL

+1; it's so unfair; i should be feeling amazing (or at the very least, not hungover!) what with not having touched a drop but no, DH wakes up with a hangover at the weekends and I wake up feeling like i have one most mornings!

I am with you ladies, - its more what I have gone off than craved.. one day i think i'd like something and love it and then the next day the idea of it would make me sick!

also with you on trying to keep it a secret for as long as possible.. only told my mum and DH Dad and sister....

P.S - Trying these travel bands for the sickness - besides waking up with dead arms , I dont think they are helping to be honest?!

1. that you have to retry every food you have ever eatin cause it all tastes different now!

2. That i would be turned off Chocolate, never in my life did i think that would happen !

3. That even early on the feeling of your uterus in your groin in very strange !

4. That even with no / a very little bump you sometimes can't have your legs closed as it feels like your squashing the baby !

5. That my boobs would feel so sore during the nite that when you get up to peep its like someone is trying to tear them from your body !

Thats all ... for now ....

That the centimeter an hour is not as common as you think I went from 1cm at 5am to 2cm at 11am told me I'd be hours and hours, 20 mins later fully dilated adn ready to push :eek

That you will not be able to paint your toenails no matter how much you convince yourself

There is no etiquette as to how your bikini line is trimmed you won't care!

Mrs Bambi - i agree with you on the piles. they were the worst ever.. got them about a month before DS came along but afterwards they were worse then the stitches i got after tearing didn't even know they were there but boy did i know about the piles..... couldn'd sit/walk/sleep with them....

getting dressed towards the end was difficult!!!

spotty skin like a teenager for the whole 10mths not just first trimester :o0

forget to tell you not just get a bump and boobs might get bigger but get big arse, belly and boobs and they never seem to stop growing :eek

pregnancy brain stays with you after birth of babs as well!!!!!!
