Thanks for that ceegee70x!

When I think back to when I had my first, I was so young and foolish (I mean, I really was). I had no idea about any of that stuff for me! I was never told by the doctor or by the woman giving the antenatal classes. It came as a huge shock when I needed to change the pads nearly every two hours!

How about we ask for this to be a sticky?

Glad it might be of help.
I havn't any experience so i don't know if its appropriate but it does seem very comprehensive.
She also sectioned her stuff out into ziplock bags so if Nurse or Hubby was rifling for something they'd lay their hands on it straight away!!!

I emailed Fiona about obtaining Sticky status, it would be great if others would add their own helpful tips.

Thanks for posting this - it's great for first-timers-(hopefully!)-to-be like myself!

Not ttc yet, but we were talking about it all weekend, and have decided to bite that bullet in September. I'm very nervous, but very excited too - I'll be counting the weeks until then. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but obviously I really hope we get lucky in the first couple of months. It would be lovely to have some good news for Christmas!

Anyway, sharing stuff like this is a real help to the (very green!) newbies like me - it's much appreciated!

Great post.

Just word of warning...don't bring everything in together. Get someone to bring stuff in & out as you need it. You'll need labour bag and a nappy, vest & babygro for baby when you go in. also a change of nighty & showerstuff, towel, maternity pads & underwear for yourself.

After that remember there are major space constraints in place.

Babies get sick a lot and sometimes you might only have changed them and up it comes again...hence lots of babygros!

Just a suggestion to get some sterile water so you have it when you come home for cleaning babies eyes

Hi girls,

I just wanted to add that a friend is private in the Coombe at the mo and they rarely come in and clean her room - she swears that anyone coming into the hospital shoud bring a packet of disposable domestos wipes if they want their locker, table etc to be kept clean!

Just wanted to add to this that if you get stiches, its recommended* that you don't use always or anything that has that type of covering (it can remain too moist and encourage germs and infection), and it is recommended that you use something with a "paper-like" covering, as the midwife said to me.

I got the mothercare ones (12 for €2) which I find great.

*(this could be wrong advice, but was what I was told)
