Hi

My FSIL is off to NY in Feb and wants to see a show. I recommended the Lion King and just had a quick look online for her. However the cheapest tickets I can see are for €175 - and that's not even for the best seats.

Does anyone if you can buy them over there on the day, e.g like in London from those cheapo ticket offices? Or are you much better to get them in advance to avoid disappointment?

You can buy them on the day in Times Square. They usually sell them twice - once in the afternoon about 2pm and then later on. They sell the tickets for at least half price. We got to see the two shows we wanted to see this way but you wouldn't have any guarantees and the queues can be long. Still, its all good fun!

Just looked up the name of it - it is called the TKTS booth in Times square at Broadway and 47th (but you can't really miss it!).

As Mallorca said, you can buy them on the day, if she wants to save a few quid though - tell her to go to an off-broadway show or off-off-Broadway

Hi we went to ny for our honeymoon, and the only show I wanted to see was the Lion King, we waited till we got there, and lo and behold it was completely sold out for 2 mths, I was gutted, had to go and see beauty and the beast (crap!). we are going back in February, and I am going to book them online, so tell her not to wait. BTW the beauty and the beast tickets were $250 so €175 is ok.

Instead of queueing at the TKTS booth at Times Square, go to the one at South Street Seaport instead - same choice & prices but no queues! :D

There's another ticket office in Times Square too, across the road in the Tourist Info office. We booked tickets for The Phantom of the Opera on a Thursday for the Saturday, but there were only 4 tickets left for the show at that stage. Personally, I wouldn't leave it to chance.

the other option is go to the box office for the actual show and see if they have any available.

Anyone recommend good website to buy the tickets before you go out there. Am going in December and would love to see Phantom of the Opera

I got the info from www.ticketsnow.com so you should be able to get them there.
