obviously she sent you a text about staying in a hotel so you would say "ah sure why not stay with us" but DON'T.
leave it at that and if she says "oh well could we stay with both of you"-- tell her that the people you are minding the place for are very fussy and have warned that it should be only you too and nobody else and that you are very sorry. good luck
OMG im actually in SHOCK here....what are people like.I can honestly say i really dont have any advice other than telling her you are so upset. But it would have to be worded properly as you could loose her friendship altogether.....next time your offered anywhere to stay or go:-
Keep that mouth of your ZIPPED
imagine your surprise when both your mobiles don't work in paris
gosh i dont' know what to say to you on this one, i'd go f-ing mental if a friend did that to me but at the same time, i don't know if i'd be able to say it to her... to be honest, i'd go on holidays with another couple, but i'd ask them first and make sure it was ok...maybe they won't be in your face and will do their own thing and just meet up with you one or 2 nights for a few drinks? ? if you think they will be annoying you then my only suggestion is turning off your mobiles!!!
I think neadi's right.
turn off your mobiles, or at least screen your calls. if you feel that's just too mean, then arrange one or two meals with them, and keep it to that. paris is a big city, if you want to avoid them you will. you two don't have any kids, so you can run on a completely different schedule anyway. do grown-up things like spending hours in museums, staying out late and not getting up till noon. if you indulge them with one or two dinners out, or one afternoon in the park or something, maybe they won't feel like you short-changed them. good luck with it, and try not to let it ruin your holiday completely!! kick back and enjoy gai paris!
i would honestly say nothing more to her, only that if it comes up in conversation about both of you being paris at the same time - try to let it be known that you and himself have lots of other arrangements for the 2 of you to be at, rather than being with them...ie your plans don't include them.
if it happens to come up in conversation - maybe play dumb along the lines of - what have u and hubby planned for yourselves & the kids? and then say 'well me and himself are goin to such and such a place this day, this place this nite, meeting up with old friends, going to another place...make it look like youve no intention of including them in your arrangements whatsoever..and then if she brings up the subject of meeting - say something casually like 'yea i'm sure we could meet for lunch or something one of the days, but sure we'll see how things are going once we're there'. try to let it be known in the kindest possible way that you and ur fella have an action packed, fun-filled holiday arranged for you both and this doesnt include them.
because you have the car why don't you go off for a few days and stay in some lovely small b&b's around the area and maybe they'll get the hint that your just not that interested in spending time with them. or else just politely say we have already made our own plans for the trip and that your really looking forward to spending some quality time on your own.
hope it works out ok and the others are right its a big city!!!!!!
I agree with snowmrs, let her bring it up again and when she does tell her that you were both looking forward to some time alone to reconnect.....
Maybe you could arrange to meet them for dinner on one night but as soon as her horrible husband starts annoying you just leave. Dont bring your mobiles or else you'll be persecuted, if you need to leave a contact number with family or work give them the apartment number under strict instructions NOT to give it to anybody else. Its awful to have to censor yourself with good news but it sounds like shes taking advantage-why doesnt she want to be alone with her husband and kids? Sometimes when a relationship is bad/boring a couple try to tag onto somebody else to distract them and its always a pain in the neck for the buffer zone couple  [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

Have you booked your flights? Is your 'friend' going for one week or two? I suppose what I'm getting at is can you go when she's not there? I absolutely adore Paris, but I can't imagine holidaying there with kids. I suppose it depends on what you plan on doing, Eurodisney would be great to have the kids, but it never bothered us not having them
But to go sightseeing would be tough going, the arch de triompe has a million steps to climb to get to the top, its very hard to get yourself up never mind carrying a child. And I can't imagine a child enjoying the Muse Dorse, or the Louve. The queue's are very long, the poor child would be so bored. So if you're going buy a pass in the Metro stations that gets you into all the big sights (you can skip the queue's) tell your friend that the people who's apartment you're staying in left it for you. They might try tagging along one day, but they'll have to queue and you and the H2B would be miles ahead of them, I can't see them spending alot of time in the Gallerys and even if you say thats what you're doing and don't, she'll never know. Keep all the arrangements very up in the air, and then if they contact you and ask you to meet for dinner etc just say you spotted a lovely terrace on your way home and had a bite to eat there, you'll legs are killing you from all the walking etc and you're going to have an early night etc.
hi don't let her think you don't want them to come, give it a day or two and then call her and say listen i'm really sorry but i mentioned it to the people whose house we are stayin in and they are not too happy about kids and extra people coming to stay, say they are good enough to let us have the place so i don't want to upset them as it is there home!! this way its not YOU who is sayiong they can't come so they can't really be annoyed with you. hth
Am suprised she didnt ask for your credit card details to book her flights... :?
Think Neadis idea of phones not working over there is great!1  You're obviously a very polite person so telling her where to go is not an option! However she just told you that she was going to Paris the same way that you told her...don't you suggest meeting up at any stage. And if she mentions it look totally shocked and say you didn't realise that that was what she had intended. Say you have made plans for most/all of the days you are there and don't think you'll get a chance to meet up with her but you're sure you'll all have a great time on your own!
