What are your plans for XMas Day?

Postby buddingmrs » Wed Sep 21, 2022 11:55 am

Up until now we both went home for xmas day but this year we're staying at home and my parents and in-laws are coming to us :?
dont mind cooking and they get on well together but not sure what to do about xmas night- my dad will want to have a drink and stay or else be home by 6 or 7 to have a drink there  and PILs are a little old to be travelling home late in bad weather. both sets too far away for taxis. Only have room for 1 couple and we'll be on the sofa at that, thinking of a local B&B but dont know if this is offensive- any advice appreciated!

This will be our first xmas living together. For the last 4 the fiance has been living at home in mayo so he usually drove to donegal on xmas day after his dinner. I have been in limerick so id go home to donegal for xmas. Problem now is we dont know what to do this year. I really want to go home to donegal and he wants me to go to mayo but there is no room for us in his house so looks like Ill win but he dosent know it yet. And there is absolutely no way Im staying in limerick for xmas, I think you need your family around you at that time of year.

For the past 4 years we both spent xmas day at my home and new years in his.

No real change this year except this'll be the first xmas in our new house so I'll be cooking - really looking forward to it!

well for the 5 xmas's we were at home, we spend xmas and new year with our own families. Last year we were here and spend both together, and with my brother, cousin and aunt and uncle that live here. It is going to be the same this year. Then next year we will be on honeymoon, should be in OZ i woudl think.

The following year, we will worry about closer the time :)

I am P*ssing myself laughing @ Judy   and her handicapped turkey !

Well we split up last year for him to go to his house and me home to mine but this year we are married and I am on two minds where to go H2b doesnt really mind where he goes but I love Xmas in our house - even with us all grown up mam and dad still make it a magical time for us and with only two grandchildren - 10 yrs and 3yrs its brilliant in ours !

We will have to discuss this further cos H2b's home is 50 miles away from mine and where we are living at the mo so its not a matter of popping down for an hour or so !

We used to both go to our own parents on Christmas morning which meant we wouldn't have dinner together but this really bugged me so when we moved into our house about 5 years ago I decided that had to stop so for the last few years I cooked the Christmas dinner here and my parents, brother and sister came in. Then we went to his parents house for St. Stephens day as they now go to a hotel for Christmas dinner.
My parents are in the process of moving house though and will now be living in a much bigger house literally 5 minutes walk from us so I'm hoping they'll decide to do dinner in their own house this year and invite us round
