knowing sex of baby before birth?
Morning ladies!
Just wondering would you / did you want to know the sex of your baby before the birth? Here in Italy it’s the norm to know what your having as soon as they can tell you but I’m not sure I’d want to know. I mean what if they got it wrong? This comes to mind because my ex colleague gave birth to triplets (I kid you not) on Monday and she was told about 4/5 months ago that she was having 2 boys and a girl so she spent her entire prgnancy talking about Lorenzo, Stefano and Vittoria and when they arrived there was no Vittoria! Now naturally she is delighted with her boys and the most important thing to her is that they are all healthy, but when I spoke to her yesterday I thought I could detect a little mourning in her voice for her little girl that never arrived. Just wondering what the general opinion was...
Hand on heart and speaking personally first, I wouldn't want to know the sex of any child I would have until it's lying in my arms after the birth.
However, all that said, if there was some genetic disorder or similar that could be passed on through pregnancy, I think those women who want to know should have the right to know, so they have time to prepare for the birth. Some people cope very well not knowing but I think some would like the option. Don't forget that no matter what the parents want to know, as what happened in your friends situation, not all unborn babies want to co-operate with the scan! ;) Just my thoughts on it.
as far as i know most doctors in Ireland don't like to let you know the sex just incase they might be wrong. my sister is due now in the next 2 or 3 weeks and the doctor told her she is having a boy. she has got all neutral colours in clothes just incase!! but i now for a fact she would be alittle disappointed as she is so excited about having a son.
Morning Mrs Allie,
on both of my pregnancies the sonographer asked me if I wanted to know the sex and I said yes. I just couldnt wait until the time came to find out !! Was told both times that I was expecting girls and sure enough I had two healthy little girls. I think its up to the individual whether or not they want to know.
Hi Mrs. Allie,
I used to live in Italy (Milan) for a few years, I used to think the italians were obsessed with babies! Really obsessed, the irish struck me as more level headed about it! I have friends in dublin and they know and wanted to know the sex of their baby, but Ive other friends and as she had a miscarraige previously she didnt want to know at all, just wanted a healthy baby. So I suppose its down to each individual experience. Here in zurich they tell you, and I think they are surprised if you dont want to know, swiss preparation and all that! sg. ![]() ![]() ![]() MC#1 June 29th 2006 @ 8 weeks MC#2 Feb 25th 2007 @ 13 weeks MC#3 June 17th 2009 @ 6 weeks MC#4 Oct 30th 2009 @ 5 weeks. yes I think I would like to know. I would go mental not knowing for the whole 9 months. Was only talking to h2b about this the other day and he would like to know also, which is just as well as it would be terrible if one of you really wanted to know and the other one didn't.
Mrs Summer Your so right it is lovely to have the suprise, also family members love to be able to guess/bet.
From the day I seen my little foetus on the scan I got this gut feeling it was a girl and it was like that the whole way through my pregnancy, then the week before she was born I was having a scan and my friend was with me when the Doc said theres HIS foot, so that made me think it was a boy!, and when I was in Labour one of the nurses said if I were to guess Id say its a boy by the way its carrying on. So when she was born I was still surprised and I taut I should have stuck with that gut feeling
i wanted to know what my daughter was going to be but was told the rotunda had a no tell policy, so it was a surprise, but this time im goingto a private clinic in rathgar to find out. I am having one of those 3d scans, u are there for about 20mins and you geta dvd and photos looks really cool
here is a link if anyone wants a goo, its not the clinic here but one in the uk http://www.babyview.co.uk/gallery.asp
we definitely don't want to know, surprise all the way ;-)
I do agree that Italy & Spain too are obsessed with babies but think it is lovely. They are spoiled no doubt IMO but at the same time grow up very independent BTW hugs to your colleague. She has 3 gorgeous boys but it is understandable she will have a wee time of missing having a girl.Mind you she'll be so busy no doubt it will fade fast
At this moment I don't think I would want to know the sex, however if/when I ever do have a baby I think I probably would don't know if I would be able for the suspense, and I know Hubby WOULD want to know if he was having his son!
Apparently they refer to all foetuses as "he" just stops with the confusion and letting it slip if parents don't want to know! [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

I wouldn't want to know either - I love the surprise at the end of it all. My brother was obsessed with knowing the sex of his first 2 children and sure enough, he knew from very early on... I just felt at the time that it ruined the buzz of the pregnancy and all the guessing among our family. On his 3rd child though, his wife decided that she didn't want to know and it was so exciting on the morning my nephew was born, getting that call to say it was a boy!!
My friend is having her first child (hopefully next week) and she got one of those 4D scans done - it's really amazing, I couldn't believe when I saw the photos. She and her husband know the sex of their child but they're not telling anybody just in case the doctors are wrong. They have the nursery done up in neutral colours, just in case!!
I wanted to know with our last, but Hubby didnt - he said he wouldnt come to any appointments or be at the birth if I found out the sex. So I didnt ask, because if I had known I couldnt have kept it a secret from him.
We now have our boy and girl - gentleman's family as they say! I always said that was enough but now I'm thinking..well, maybe one more. Hubby would have 10 but then he's not the one who stays at home and minds them all day!! :? Men... [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]
