tiny cut in corner of mouth for AGES.

tiny cut in corner of mouth for AGES.

Postby BrideOfRecession » Wed Jan 11, 2022 9:39 pm

My OH has a cut in the corner of his mouth for AGES now. It just won't go - have used lots of different lotions and potions but nothing helping. He went to the doctor and had bloods but all is fine, we thought it might be a vitamin B12 deficiency but no, he's all clear. Have heard of this thing angular cheilitis but I am not sure if it looks like that. Anyone else have this or know anyone that does? HElp my OH! Please!

Does he be at it with his tongue or anything?
It's such an 'active' area, it probably just hasn't had a chance to heal.

Nope, he doesn't touch it at all. It's been there for about two years, more even. The doc has fobbed him off about it before cos I suppose it doesn't look like much but it is really bugging him after all this time. He visited the nurse the last time and she did the blood tests but like I said everything a ok - so now he's back at square one...

Not sure if this will be of any help to you but I had something similar many times before. My lips would be cut in the corners and would go all dry around the cuts. It could be all in my head but it always seems to happen when I'm particularly stressed, I say I've got my scabby lips again! Used to last for months at a time, went to the docs a couple of times but to no avail. Someone in work recommended black strap molasses tablets.

If I feel it flaring up I take them again. I'm sure you can get in any health food store but I get them in Holland & Barrett. It's an iron supplement if I remember rightly. After about a week of taking them my scabby lips go away!!

May be of no use at all but I know I tried every lotion and potion before it and nothing else worked for me.

I'll try that black strap stuff, thanks! He's not iron deficient though, the tests checked for that, but worth a try anyway!

I know Finicky - two Flip years, it'd drive anyone mad.

I don't remember what she says it is a sign of - but that nutter Gilllian McKeith, You Are What You Eat, in her book (or one of them) it details what this is a sign of (or deficiency of). I remember flipping through it years ago - and I had a cut at the side of my mouth at the time!!

Hey BOR this is a bit gross, but it might be a tiny yeast infection - apparently thrush-like bugs love those little cuts because it's warm and damp in there.

Have you got any Canesten lying around? Get him to lash that on overnight - might be worth a shot? Worked for me the last time after B vitamins did nothing :-8

BOR, have your hubby try taking some Vitamin C supplements. Won't hurt him and may solve the problem. Occasionally, I have the same problem and getting more Vitamin C always seems to help.

Best,

I said that to him there and he said yeah he'll give it a shot. Maybe a fresh pair of eyes can solve it!

Thanks Synergy - We don't have any fucidin, that's prescription, right? I'll ask OH to ask doc for a script for that and see what they say. Love fucidin myself, find it works for everything!

I used to get this all the time and tried loads of things, the only thing that worked for me is Carmex lip balm. Tell him to get the plain flavour and use it for a week. When I use another lip balm it comes back so now I get nervous if I run out. I use the stick which is sometimes difficult to find so when I do I stock pile it.

Let me know how you get on. I hope it works!
