Barking dog

Barking dog

Postby reine » Fri May 04, 2022 6:50 pm

If your neighbour's dog was barking for hours non-stop in the evening, every single evening, what would you do? They are in the house as far as I know, they seem to just leave him out in the garden (postage stamp size of a place). I feel like saying something, but I'm afraid of a fight. I guess this is more of a rant than anything.

I'd definately go in and say it nicely to the neighbours that it's driving you nutty. I wouldn't care if it caused an argument, that's unbearable!

Knock in and say it nicely. As someone who is the cause of the problem (i have the barking dog) Im glad a neighbour knocked in, actually two did, one was nice about it and the other was a Prick in all fairness. We had to rehome the dog that was barking and now most of our neighbours have their own dogs which is driving these two non dog owners mad. When one called in i explained we were looking to rehome the dog and that the other one only barks if the kids are kicking the ball of the fence. Just make your neighbour aware.

Thanks girls. On the couch in my pjs now, so I'll leave it for tonight and call in over the weekend. Dreading it, cause I don't really know them and don't know how they'll take it, but I have to try. It's going on for too long now.

I can see the little fella from my upstairs window, running around in circles, barking his head off. Surely that means he's bored? Feel sorry for him.

I wouldnt say anything about the dog being bored though just say that you are finding it hard to relax in the evening due to the dog barking.

A barking dog would drive me around the twist! I would probably rant about it but i don't think I would have the guts to call in and give out about it to the owners. I hate confrontation.
The poor dog, that is one of the main reason I don't think I will never own a dog, leaving them cooped up all day is awful for the poor things.
Two of our neighbours have chicken coops and in the mornings they make a lot of noise. We generally don't hear them as we sleep in the front.

We have had similar problems. One was leaving the dog out when they went out at night and when they were gone to work and he would just bark constantly. They didn't do very much about it even though various neighbours went in. Eventually the landlord got rid of them.
Most recently we had a husky next door and at the very start they would just leave him out for hours, once again we have medium size gardens and the dog was never walked which was so unfair.
I went in and told them to take the dog in and that the barking was excessive. It improved they didn't leave him out all day again just for shorter periods he was still out barking at the birds and oh dear God when an ambulance of Garda car would go within earshot the howling was unreal.
They have now moved on,I was delighted to see the dog gone!
We have a dog ourselves and he is never out without us and he doesn't bark for nothing.

My advice would be go in and be nice about it all smiles and just make it clear that it is a nuisance.

I would go in to your neighbour and talk to them. The poor poor dog is bored senseless with no walks, interaction or stimulation. Its cruel. The poor dog is barking looking for attention .. But that aside I would def go in and speak to them. If they do nothing then give the dog warden a call..

What about putting a note through the letter box. They wont know who it has come from but it will make them think about the noise without any confrontation and hopefully things will improve??

How do you know, there are no walks, interaction or stimulation?

I have three dogs and 2 of whom are barkers, when we lived in an estate they got walked everyday and also went swimming as we were beside a river. The two barked at neigbours talking in gardens, cats walking on the back wall or fence and even birds flying over the garden. I had notes put on the car and threw the letter box by the neighbour behind me stating I would be reported to the Ispca!!!! Never were they left for endeless days or hours , they just barked! Go around and befriendly and explain that they are driving you mad and see what they say, do not put a note in the letter box that boiled my blood!!

i am going by the op post.. Dog is left in a tiny garden for hours on end in the evenings and she thinks the owners are in the house.. If the dog is sitting outside barking and they are
just leaving it there then to me that doesnt sound like he has any toys or anything or that they really give a damn. Maybe im very wrong.. I know my own 2 dogs bark at birds etc but when im there im out to them straight away to take them in.. Like you would im sure Castaway.

Re the note i wouldnt do that. It would just anger them. I got a note in my door a few years ago about mine and I was furious. I went and found out who sent in and talked to them. Now i have no problems..I think a face to face talk is better.

Talk to you neighbours and if they choose not to do anything about it then you have a right to make a complaint to the district court there is a control of dogs act about that. We never ever let my dog just bark outside we always react and stop him. There is no excuse especially when theyre actually in the house when that happens!

This drives me round the bend. Both of our neighbours on either side of our house have dogs & we rarely hear them. BUT...a new family moved in across the road and oh dear God the poor dog is constantly barking. The back entrance to their house is facing ours and it's quite a busy road with lots of people going for walks etc. past our house. Every time someone passes their house their little dog starts barking like mad and considering the amount of people out walking in the evenings that's a lot of barking!
Good luck if you pluck up the courage Reine - not sure if I'll manage to :-8 I'd agree with the others though - call to them personally rather than sticking a note in the letter box.

Just letting ye know that I called in there a few days ago. She said sorry and that she'd bring the dog in to the house. Things improved then that night, but that only lasted a day. I can hear him outside all the time again, even as I type now. Surely it's cruel?! The dog obviously needs some sort of stimulation and isn't getting it. I'm furious.

Our dog barks when he's in the garden as well so thats part of the reason we keep him inside. Theres dog in garden beside us and the two of them bark like mad at each other. We only let him out to go to toilet and if we let him out for run etc and he starts barking like mad he is taken straight back in.
Keep saying I must do something about getting the two of them introduced, might stop the barking if they recognised each other or something.
