Painting ... Ceilings, walls etc

Painting ... Ceilings, walls etc

Postby HMB » Sun May 06, 2022 12:02 am

Have decided our home needs a lick of paint. Apart from touch ups the last time the place was properly painted was about 5 years ago. Question - would you paint the ceilings? Is it over ambitious? Or will the ceilings look crap if they're not done and everything else is? They don't look stained at the minute - we don't smoke etc inside ... Any thoughts??

HMB,

Just a word of advice if you *do* decide to paint the ceiling. Do it first before the walls. Nothing worse than getting the walls all done and looking gorgeous, then have splatters of ceiling paint all over them no matter how careful you try to be. >:o(

Best,

I would say it depends how the ceilings look. I'd prob just do them anyway when you're going to be painting the walls. They may not look too grubby now but when you've the walls freshly painted you'd be amazed how much it shows up the rest of the room!

Not sure how much painting you are planning to do. We are doing some painting this weekend too, and it is worth doing the ceilings (just one coat for definite though, don't kill yourself!)

If anything it would be a bit ambitious (IMO) to be planning more than one room at a time, as you have to move stuff etc and makes the whole house a bit messy in the process.

Was thinking about doing the ceilings all at once and then mostly doing it room by room? It's just one of those jobs that I dread but I know we need to get it done!

I would say do the ceiling as you do the room, because whether you are doing the ceiling or the walls you'll be moving/covering furniture, so you'll have to do it twice over if you get me? Ceilings are pretty easy if you have a long handled roller but even if you think you're being tidy, there will always be splatters!

Def paint the ceilings- when we painted our living room we didn't do the ceiling cos we thought it looked grand and now it really needs painting but the walls are still grand. Better to paint everything in the room if you're going to the bother of painting at all.

Hi HMB,

I would do the ceilings too, even if they look like they don't need to be done the place will be so fresh when it's finished!

Looks like the nesting has started!! Best of luck x
