Music heebie-jeebies

Music heebie-jeebies

Postby bazinga » Tue May 08, 2022 11:32 am

Just read through the thread about words that you hate - thanks for the mid-afternoon gag over the word moist *FYI Admin - can we get rid of that word and bring back d - which apparently means C A M E O?*

It got me thinking about what songs induce the similar feeling of nausea.

So to begin -

Gold - Spandau Ballet. Actually just thinking about the word Spandau brings on a clammy head

Careless Whisper - George Michael

Human by the Killers. Hate it irrationally for some reason.

Also anything by Justin Bieber- don't think that needs justification!

I hate Billie Jean. A floor filler my eye. Never liked it. Also never saw the appeal of Coldplay. And finally, I really, really hate 'I've Had the Time of My Life'.

Dreadlock Holiday by 10CC. It was playing at the time we had a minor road accident in my folks' banger. We looked behind to see our little caravan had tipped over the hedge heading for the river. Going back a fair few decades now but it still manages to bring my head out in a rash of staggers from the opening notes. I don't like cricket oh no.

Bohemian Rhapsody also scared the bejaysis outta me as a nipper. Well, more so the video with the kaleidoscopic four faces beaming down. Yikes. Long over that one. Makes me smile since hearing a pair of old geezers doing the whole thing acoustically from start to finish in that Fillipino restaurant on Bath Avenue in Dublin. Comedy gold. Please, if there are other comrades out who have witnessed this spectacle share it with the group - words fail me. One of the best night's craic ever.

Great idea for a thread. Will have to have a think about specific songs, but there is an entire genre of music that makes me want to peel my own skin off. Reggae. I can't abide it, it's deathly boring, I hate what it "stands" for and everything that goes with it. UGH UGH UGH.

Gotye: Somebody That I Used To Know. I hate it and it's stupid Baa Baa Black Sheep intro with all the fiery passions of hell.

Apart from that, I have a plethora of others that make me feel ill and/or annoyed:

Youssou N'Dour & Nenah Cherry - 7 Seconds
T'Pau - China In Your Hand
Berlin - Take My Breath Away
John Lennon - Imagine
Boyzone - Picture of You
You Raise Me Up, sung by anyone (including my beloved Josh Groban)

+1 on ANYTHING by Simply Red, my mother used to put on her Simply Red tape to get rid of me if I was p!ssing her off as a child, far more effective than shouting.

Bruno Mars - Grenade "wah wah wah, wuh wuh wuh" (is what it sounds like in my head)

I Will Survive. It should be erased from every Karaoke machine on earth.

It's Raining Men. Oh FUCK OFF. Are you that desperate for a man that you have to imagine that they're falling from the sky? If they DID, they would have numerous injuries and would be of NO use to you anyway you man-mad IDIOTs.

I'm Every Woman: NO YOU'RE NOT. You're not ME.

Nine Million Bicycles by Katie Melua. Which appears to go on for Nine Million Minutes.

Country and Western. Brazilian country n' western is worth an honorary mention, unfortunately DH loves it
Everything by Coldplay and Travis, whingers the lot of them
All manufactured pop (Weslife, Boyzone, Take That right up to whatever crap is bothering the charts at the moment)

Other than that there are so many individual songs worthy of my hatred. "Now i've had the time of my life", Jennifer Warner and I can't remember the guy's name, from the movie with Patrick Swayze, what the hell was that called again?!
Everything by Rihanna, She. Has. No. Discernible. Talent.
The Final Countdown by Europe. Now I love my hair rock but this just makes my ears bleed
The Fugees, thank goodness they split before I had to get on a plane and kill them
To get around the Wol Zapper, spell my name as: Pu$$y Galore!
Oh yeah, and I was formerly shumbles!

I'll preface this by saying I like guitars, loudness and rock-type stuff in general but... what will make me jump out of the bath and turn the radio off in an Olmpic winning fashion?

# most anything by the Beastie Boys - Sabotage and Intergalactic Planetary deserve specail mention. STOP SHOUTING for chrissakes. Still, sorry to hear Adam Yauch died so young.

# Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know. If I understand the lyrics right, he broke up with a girl he didn't like much at all, and now he's pissed off that she's ignoring him and somehow feels he needs to write a whiney song about it? Grow the eff up.

# Dirty Dancing "I've had the Time of My Life" - this is a popular/unpopular one on this thread so far.
