OMG... I think your boss is a cheeky F U C K !!, how dare he ask you that, can he even ask you that?.. I cant believe he said that to you, its none of his business, regardless you are still entitled to your maternity leave!

When i told my boss i was pregnant, the first thing he said to me was i hope you know we dont pay you maternity and oh are you going to come back after your maternity leave!...

Men..they havent a clue..

I was telling my sister and she said "what is it to him" but I know it will be frowned upon if I do go back to work pregnant or even be pregnant in the next few months...

I honestly wouldnt be worrying about what they think if you go back pregnant or get pregnant within a couple of months, its your life and your family you have to think of, plus if you do get pregnant there is not a thing they can do, MOST jobs are afraid to say BOO to a pregnany lady...I have honestly learnt the hard way with my job when i was pregnant!!..

best of luck with your TTCing.. :babydust: :stork:

He's out of order but then you're returning to work after a career break, not having an interview for a new job.
You're not supposed to work in paye employment while on career break and you're very, very lucky to be let back, (I know a few who haven't been), so I'd just get over it if I was you.

Jeez that's some question to ask you.
Check your contract though if you are TTC. I know in some govt jobs you are not entitled to full maternity benefit if you have been on long-term leave/career break within 12 months of starting your maternity leave. That might not be the case in all govt jobs though.

OMG Im pretty sure what he said to you was illegal?
He has no right to ask or accuse of of returning to work for the benefits.
You have every right to put in a compliant about this if you want?

Rude of him to ask, totally none of his business.
Its a sensitive subject for many.

But I do have another genuine Q, you can leave a Govt job and work else where
while the job is held open for your return?
Do they get someone in while you're off?
I'm just genuinely intrigued

Au contraire, nelswife, he was right on the money in this instance, don't ya think?

hollylol wrote:What do you think of what he asked me???

Aye, out of order, professionally speaking, but I'd say it's not the first time he's had to sit across a desk from someone lying about their primary reasons for returning to their government job. He had your number, although he should have bitten his inappropriate tongue. It's a bit of a farce that this situation is even possible, but you didn't make the rules and I'd probably do the same myself if I were in your position. As long as the loopholes are there, people will jump through them with their fingers firmly crossed behind their backs.

As Finicky Fi said, I'd just get over it and when you announce your news in the (hopefully), not so distant future, there won't be much he can do about it then anyway.

Besta luck to ya on your baby making journey.

I would consider yourself lucky to get your job back - your only supposed to work PAYE outside of Ireland or work as self-employed here. I wouldn't give you your job back.
I agree that he was out of order, but I don't think just because it's a Government job that there shouldn't be a few eyebrows raised if you go back and go out shortly after on Maternity.

Very lucky to get your job back. The idiot was unprofessional to ask you that question and obviously needs a bit of training. But it seems he was astute all the same. Sure he's seen this before.

Or Should I ask you the question that you posed to us OP?

Do you want to return to your Government Job for the maternity benefit after 5 years?

5 Years? Why is this Job suddenly after 5 years of working private so amazing to go back to? A lot of people indirectly or directly affected are entitled in fairness to ask these questions.
