Had friends over at the weekend, and my God they were embarrassing with the pet names made us feel so uncomfortable. They constantly referred to each other as baba. They are together 4.5 years, longer than myself and my husband, and the most we stretch to is hon. I know people have pet names for their partners and that some of them are relevant to a funny story, but both of the couple referred to the other as baba several times. Maybe it just freaked me out because I'm pregnant, but husband felt the same. And it wasn't just "pass me the remote there baba", it was all "baba I want a hug", in a baby voice. Cringe.

Oh I'd shoot my husband if he did that. I'd shoot myself too!
I'd have pet names for my husband and he for me but ONLY in private! When we have guests or are out we use our real names.
Sick making!

Oh no, thats just wrong. We would have pet names for each other but they are private. I did accidentally call OH babycakes in front of my dad. He was horrified that OH would be ok with me calling that name. We were both totally morto and OH won't let me call him that at all anymore

Oh god... the Baba part was bad but doing it in a baby voice... that's just creepy.
We have nicknames for each other, but they're not really petnames. When we first met (as friends) I was only called by my nickname so that's what he knew me as, he still calls me that as do all of my family so it isn't really weird. I supposed we call each other 'honey' sometimes when others are around, but that would be the extent of it.
I know a couple who call each other 'babes' all the time, and I really hate it! It feels quite juvenile to me!

That is well cringey, i sometimes use DH's nickname in front of people out of habit and he's use mine but they are nicknames as opposed to lovey dovey type names so i don't think it's too bad. I have gotten into a habit of calling him baby by accident though, when I'm talking to the actual baby i'd say things like 'will we go to the shop baby' and it's slipped in a couple of times when i'm talking to DH, once or twice in front of people, scarleh!!
Baby led weaning and loving it!

I find it cringey when couples refer to themselves as 'mum' and 'dad'. There's a couple of couples we know who call themselves mum and dad, it just makes me hurl!

HA HA- myself and my husband did this jokingly after our son was born/ fast forward a few weeks and we realised that we were still doing it. We were down in his Mam's and he said something to me (on behalf of the baby) and called me Mammy (as in "I think my nappy needs to be changed Mammy). Well I wanted the ground to open up...... Scarlet for MYSELF!!! Told him that we need to nip that in the bud fairly quickly!!

I know a couple and the husband always refers to his wife as "babeeeeeeeeee" and it's said in a baby voice. I've never, ever, ever heard him call her her actual name Myself and DH aren't into any of that "hun, honey, babe" sh!te!

We are guilty of calling each other 'Hon' most of the time, I don't mind that at all. But he calls me baby sometimes in a squeaky voice and I hate it. My friend told me a story of having her FIL to stay and one morning he said "Pass the milk Poochybear" which was her husband's nickname for her, he must've said it in front of the father. She was morto
To get around the Wol Zapper, spell my name as: Pu$$y Galore! Oh yeah, and I was formerly shumbles! Another Wollie with a blog: 365 Photography Project: http://pixbyshumbles.wordpress.com/

We are the annoying couple I guess. I call OH by his name, but he calls me Baby, or B, or D. I know he's annoyed if he calls me by my name. Sans the weird voice though, just his normal tone. He is slagged constantly about it, but it's water of a ducks back to him at this stage, he doesn't care.
He has me in his phone as a seriously cringey name and when he was in hospital for a serious procedure 2 weeks ago, I kept phoning for updates from his dad (couldn't get off work) and he got a serious ribbing over that.

Now I have no such problems with hon, honey, baby, or even the poochybear names. I don't think anyone like that is annoying. What was making me uncomfortable was the use of the word baba, IN A BABY VOICE. Gawk gawk gawk.
Bazinga, hope the procedure went well.

+1 We call each other "Babe" pretty much exclusively. Although I love it when H says my name - I wish he'd do it more often!

We say babes But no baby voice thank you very much!! DH sometimes calls me sugar tits (He loves Gavin and Stacey, thought it was hilarious when Dave said it Nessa!!!) I never thought we'd say mammy or daddy either but fast forward 11 months and we want DS to hear it loads so its all "wheres mama/dada", "do you want dada to give you a bath". But that will stop when DS can talk (hopefully would hate if it became a habit, my friends mother did this even when he was 16 )
