mini moon/short break in Ireland ideas

As wedding is approaching and the budget is creeping up and up :o( it looks like our idea of a mini moon to Italy is having to be rethought O:| . We're getting married in Spain and have our return flights home so mini-mooning there isn't an option. We'll have our main honeymoon in Dec when we go to New York so i was looking for a few suggestions for something to do in Ireland. We're up north so nothing too far south and it doesn't have to be a hotel, could be really nice house/cottage to rent but not on the expensive side or i think H2B will have a fit :yelrotflmaosmilie:

About to pull my hair out with this ever expanding budget at min, seems that when i make savings somewhere they are more than met by some unexpected cost somewhere else O:|

Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated

Would you consider Donegal McLisa? You'd get a self-catering cottage at a good rate in low season.

actually love donegal, i'm not too far from it so grew up holidaying there and we spent a great weekend near Dungloe so it is an option. Might have a look to see if i can find a lovely little secluded cottage somewhere :compress

Up around Dunfanaghy, or over by Ardara and Glencolmcille would place yiz in the most scenic spots (Slieve League in the case of latter), as well as proximity to reasonable grubbing joints. Failte Ireland website should sort you out. Enjoy wherever you end up.

There's a gorgeous hotel in Connemara that we stayed in a few years ago, Ballynahinch Castle - it's an old hunting lodge, quite small and very cosy with roaring fires everywhere. No fancy amenities but top-quality food and beautiful grounds for walking in - could be perfect for a romantic break?
