The Time Travellers Wife

The Time Travellers Wife

Postby gym bunny » Thu May 10, 2022 9:19 am

Am I the only one that thinks this book is the biggest load of cr@p? I am an avid reader and love my books and after hearing such rave reviews I went out and bought this book. I am really really struggling to get into to it, after reading the first 100 pages I am going to give up I think. It just seems so far fetched and all the too-ing and fro-ing from past to present O:| I have not seen the movie as I didnt want it to spoil the book. I hope someone can tell me that the book suddenly gets better and I should presevere and read on.

I thought this book was only amazing when I read it years ago. And at the time Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston has bought the writes to make the movie.... thankfully that didn't go ahead.

I didn't go and see the movie in the end- I didn't want to spoil the beauty of the book.

I wanted to marry him by the time I had finished the book- even with all the to-ing and fro-ing!!

Loved loved loved!! :lvs :lvs :lvs :lvs

Oh, I adored the book when I read it. Her style of writing is really beautiful imo and there were some sentences that made we want to cry (wouldn't usually cry reading, except for The Remains of The Day, always cry, favourite book ever!) they were so eloquently put. Not sure how I'd feel about it now, I don't have a great memory for books, I usually only remember the basic plotline and whether I liked it or not, it's 8 years since I read it and my tastes have changed over time, ie; I am far more discerning and fussy these days. Watched the film on sky movies recently and it was awful awful awful, even though I have a thing for Eric Bana and a massive girl crush on Rachel McAdams.

Loved it when I read it a few years ago but you have to accept the fact that it is far fetched to get into it iykwim. Not sure if I'd like it now- often I try to read a book a second time and I don't like it at all as much as the first time I read it.

sorry, i haven't read the book but having seen the film recently, it would put me off ever reading the book. hated it. i just thought it so utterly silly that the schmaltziness of it was lost on me and felt ridiculous. i also found the anticipation of a loved one dying a bit too painful.
sister loved it, but i just couldn't see the appeal at all.

I loved the book when I read it, when the film came out, I dragged my friend along to the cinema to see it, telling her how much she'd love it. She never lets me forget how bad it was. Wasn't as keen on Her Fearful Symmetry, another one of her books that I read recently.
