Way to slippy when we or icy for my liking it's extremely dangers. Also I do know someone with a lovely family of mice under theres!

The rats thing is sorta a myth - they don't automatically draw rats but they can provide a lovely environment for them if its laid a certain way.

If you leave space for the vermin to get in under the decking and lay the decking so that no water seeps down it can create the ideal environment for rats and mice - warm, sheltered and dry.

If you space the decking slightly so that water gets through the boards then its not a great environment for the rats and they therefore won't wanna be there!

The big thing though, is that they are very hard to maintain... sanding and varnishing and they can be VERY SLIPPY in the rain and the wood can develop a green sorta moss/slime that takes a lot of elbow grease to remove.

We decided to go with a patio. h2b dug foundations and built a wall around it, filled it with stone and then finished the top with concrete, We then put an iron railing around it - much more easily maintained. A rub of a power washer will clean the concrete and the railings are galvanised and powder coated so they won't require yearly painting...
