How Judgemental are you?

Postby bazinga » Fri May 11, 2022 9:16 am

In life and on here I have come across some very highly judgemental people. (It is not lost on me that I've judged them judgemental) Just a few threads on here have me thinking.

How judgemental do you think you are?

I'm going to go ahead and stick myself as a 3. More than I'd like to be, but still very live and let live.

I'm ridiculously judgemental- I gave myself a 10! I'm good at keeping my judgements to myself most of the time though. My OH knows how bad I am but generally he finds it funny.

I'm slap bang in the middle.. I think. It's all subjective I guess. I think it's human nature to judge, to an extent, and make presumptions based on certain things. It doesn't mean I'm held to them and can't have my mind changed/opened. I try not to write someone off based on a fleeting meeting with them or hear-say. I give people a fair chance and the benefit of the doubt.

Oh definitely, that's why there's no 0 - everyone judges, however little, it's human nature like you say.

Minnie - at least you are honest, fairplay :o0 My mum would be a 9/10 but would consider herself one of the lower numbers.

Like Minnie I think I'm very judgemental. Probably a six or seven. But I'm really working on it and I try not to let it rule me. I try my hardest to take a minute and reassess. Like someone posted a thread a few weeks ago about a kid at a birthday party being really out of control. I think if I'd seen that kid my immediate snap decision would have been 'what a brat'. But I'm working hard on taking a step back from that initial thought and saying 'That's not fair, he's just a child' and trying to see other sides of the story.

I do make snap judgements a lot, but I'm trying to train myself not to cos it's not fair.

I'm fairly much live and let live but I'm very judgemental of people who are idiots. I actually can't stand idiots. People who text into radio stations that Michael O'Leary should be tasoiseach...just snap judgement makers that don't then deviate from that decision or think about it more, I mean we all make snap judgements but I'd like to think I can change my mind. I can respect pretty much any opinion once it's backed up with a thoughtful argument and therefore wouldn't judge people too much on their actions. Plus I'm a big fan on sayings such as 'there but for the grace of God go I' and 'walk a mile in my shoes', so a lot of the time I don't think I have the right to judge. And to be quite honest I don't care a lot of the time either.

I think I used to be fairly judgemental but life and age has taught me to be less so and view the bigger picture. I'm one of those people who looks at both sides now, or tries to see things from different perspectives. This doesn't always do my many favours as sometimes I'm expressing another view that contradicts what the majority are saying.

I can be judgemental at times, as in when someone is doing or saying something extremely stupid, I'll be the one of the first to call it what it is.

I can be judgemental about how other people spend their money, only because I sometimes feel judged about how I spend my money. I must keep repeating to myself 'different priorities' and have to start saying it to anyone who comments on my spending/ saving habits.

However I'm not very judgemental when it comes to people's life choices, as in if someone wants to have one night stands or move in with someone they met 2 months beforehand or change careers, then work away.

I'm going to give myself a 5, I think.

It's interesting that most people rate themselves as fairly judgmental. I think we live in a very judgmental society so its hard not to judge others and act in a judgmental manner.
I put myself at a 7....

P.s. is this spelt judgemental or judgmental? I thought it was judgemental but spell check told me I'm wrong!

I am somewhere in the middle I think. I really wouldn't be bothered about what most people get up to but when it harms/affects others then yes I am judgemental and don't see anything wrong with that tbh.

I think I'm pretty judgemental (gave myself a 7) but I wouldn't really voice my opinion unless asked, or unless it was with someone equally as judgey!! :o0

To be fair, I think I'm as judgemental on myself as I am on other people!! :)

I'm judgemental of people who don't read.
I'm judgemental of people who excessively care about people like the Kardashians or other D-list celebs.
I'm judgemental of people who don't think Father Ted or Peep Show are funny.
I'm judgemental of people who read the Daily Mail (uncritically).

My strongest judgement is reserved for those who are racist/sexist/homophobic or are in other ways unaware of their own privilege. But I'm not sure if 'judgemental' is the right word for that, cos it's a bit worthy, whereas all my other 'judgements' are horrible snobbery on my part!

Oh massive + 1 to all of this. I rated myself at a 7, I'm terrible for passing judgement in my head at people, luckily I keep it to myself, because I'm also judgemental of outwardly critical/judgemental people. I actually really dislike this element of myself and I'm working on it, but I'll never get past the people who don't read thing. I don't care what books you read and won't judge you based on that (okay, I rated myself a 7 so I probably will a little bit :innocent: ), just read!

Edited to say: racist/sexist/homophobic people are perfectly worthy of negative judgement so you're right, it's not the same as being judgemental in the, for want of a better word, petty sense.
