Help me resign!

Help me resign!

Postby lovelywine » Mon May 14, 2022 8:11 am

I need to go into work tomorrow and resign giving a weeks notice.... Only thing is I have two managers both in another country at the minute. Don't know what to do! Do I send them an email, give them a ring or type up the usual letter and give it to the HR rep we have in our office?

I'm bricking it.... Not even there 3 months... Dreading it as my colleague left 6 weeks ago and hasnt been replaced so I feel like I'm really letting them down.... Do I have to tell them where I'm going to or can I just say nothing....?? My head is wrecked :-(

i'd maybe arrange a quick meeting with the HR manager & then but it in writing via email and include your managers on the address list.. i think it'd be a bit strange to not give a reason for leaving so i'd be inclined to say you should...
also if you haven't already done so, check the minimum required notice period under the terms of your employment contract.

Hi Lovelywine,

I'm sure you don't need to give them a specific reason, I'm sure you could just say it's something personal. It's up to them to replace the staff member that left 6 weeks ago, that's what the HR manager is for, so don't feel like you are letting them down, by you leaving too! I'm getting the impression they aren't the nicest org (sorry if I'm wrong), esp as someone else left recently too. You are entitled to resign if you want. You could always give citizen's advice a ring, I'm sure they'll be able to advise you regarding employment issues.

It's a great company which is why I feel bad! I've just got a better job closer to home... The HR rep in the office is lovely but our actual HR manager sits in Uk. I'm still on probation so I know I only have to give a week but I just don't know the best way of doing it.

I think I'll say it to the HR rep in the morning and take it from there but then I don't want my two managers getting annoyed cos I spoke to HR first....

Why do I make life difficult for myself!!!!

You could always drop the two managers an email just asking if one of them might be available for a call as there's something you would like to discuss with them.

Thats what I was thinking Jane Smith but both love having the phone on speaker so I wouldn't want the whole office knowing whats going on....think I might speak with HR first and take it from there....god I'm dreading it....moreso because both managers are away. I feel if they were both in the office I could just call one of them aside and do it face to face but this way I think its just harder if you know what i mean :-8

Good, glad it went smoothly! Don't mind that manager, they shouldn't be taking things like that personally! Do you have to work out notice?
