we groomed Buddy

Postby SorrentoWife » Sun Mar 11, 2022 10:38 pm

Dh decided few weeks ago that he wanted to groom Buddy himself! So we got an electric razor (which turned out to be crap!) and off he went. The razor was sh!te and it took ages but he looks well now. He had a mad amount of hair. Only when we started cutting him we realised how hairy he was! Ended up cutting a lot of it off with the scissors and then evening it out and tidying it up with the electric razor. Just a bit of hair on his face which we couldnt' get - we call it his beard! Think by time we got to that he had a pain in his ass standing on the table being clipped and cut. Then gave him a bath and he's a new dog! He looks so much thinner when his hair is shorter and his legs minus the inches of hair look so skinny!!

Will get one tomorrow and post it up. Needs a little bit of tidying up but we left it for today as the poor thing was probably sick of being cut and was getting a bit restless on the table.

Managed to get him to stand still for 2 seconds this morning and take a pic. He needs a bit of tidying up so I texted our groomer who minds him as well and hes going to her for daycare on Fri so have asked her to tidy him up and add it onto the daycare cost.
Put a pic of him before so you can see how hairy he was! (taken one of the few times he was in his bed and not on the couch! He had been in daycare that day and was shattered from playing and hopping onto the couch was too much effort!)

Theres no way on earth we're doing it again! Ever since we got him dh has wanted to groom him himself and managed to put him off till yesterday! Next time we'll get him done professionally and then maintain it ourselves. It took about 2.5 hours which was painful! My job was to hold him and keep him as still as possible which was boring! I wanted to watch the rugby but instead only got bits of the Eng France match.

Neither of us realised how hairy he was till we started cutting him! We'd cut a bit and then there seemed to be as much underneath. Then his legs and under his tummy were very knotted and matted so took even longer.

oh god, sounds like a bit of nightmare alright :o0 I was thinking it would take ages alright cos the groomer takes at least 2 hours but more often 2.5. our grooming costs €40 and we get it done on average once every 10 weeks so think it is worth it after hearing that!! my one definitely would not stay still for us for that length of time either!

Hope dh has the grooming bug out of his system now! :o0 In fairness he did a good job for a 1st go and considering the razor we bought was so crap. Think he's going to bring it back. It was €50 and barely cut his hair at all.
His hair grows so fast so next time we'll get him groomed properly and then trim him once he gets fuzzy to keep him tidy between grooms.

SW, I can't believe you groomed him :o0 Not a bad attempt (from the groomers eye of course).

Cockers have an unbelievable coat, it's so thick and so dense. I'm amazed a normal electric razor went through it!

Fair play though, I know how hard it is!!

P.s hope you are well :wv

Thanks MrsAH! Yeah we didn't realise the work involved! Brought him to daycare after we groomed him (she grooms him too) and was asking her stuff. She said she'd expect to take 2.5 hours to groom him normally and said how thick their coats are. Asked her to tidy up his legs and head and give him a quick once over with the razor to make sure he was all even. She did that and he looks fab now! Coat so shiny and so much easier to brush him.

Grooming is a tough job! Fair play to anyone who can do it all day. I nearly cracked up doing Buddy.

Ah look at him. He is gorgeous!

I just washed my pup (another buddy!). He hates it so much told DH we are definitely going to a trained professional next time. He probably needs a trim and nails need doing too so its something we cant delay too much but Im afraid he will be cold if we cut his hair!! lol! Im so sad. I worry about him more than I do myself!
