Neighbours dog barking during the day

Hi girls im a SAHM with 3 kids (1,2 and 4). We live in a housing estate and next door have 2 small dogs. One is a Yorkshire terrier and I dont know what the other is, he is a small white dog looks like a full breed type of dog. The YT barks a lot during the day. The people who live there work 8.30-6, some days the dogs are left outside all day and somedays they are inside.

Im dreading the summer because I will have nothing but constant yapping all day long. If we go into the garden he will just keep barking at us. At the moment he is flying around the garden barking the last hour.
Some of the other neighbours have dogs but they dont bark like this one. He torments the dog the far side and stands at the wall barking at him for ages and then that dog will start.

The neightbours keep to themselves a lot, we just say a few briefs words when we meet outside. Im reluctant to say anything but im dreading putting up with it again this year.

Is there anything that can be done to stop this barking? I mean there is no point in approaching her if all she can realistically do it get rid of the dogs(s) because that isnt going to happen.

Its so bad that one day he escaped and I found him out the front and I was half tempted to dognap him and give him to someone else.

My head is wrecked with it. I spend €60 every week putting two of my kids in creche for the day so I can study for my exams but its too hard to concentrate with the constant barking.

Please help.

If hes outside barking over the wall at you and they arent home, Id get the hose or a water gun and give him a spray of it. Seeing as hes only small you dont want to blast him with a hose but a squirt of water at him should deter him from barking. My Dad did it with their dog as years ago they moved from living in the country to an estate so the dog wasnt used to having neighbours, she quickly got the message.
If it continues I think you should say it to your neighbours. We have asked ours a couple of times if our dog annoys them by barking at them when hes out and we arent there, they all said no.

I'd be inclined to say it to them. I'm on the other side in that I have 2 dogs at home all day while we're at work, they are dobermans so their bark can be very loud. Every now and then I make a point of asking my neightbour, who is a SAHM too, if the dogs bother her.

Do the dogs bark like this when the neighbours are home?

I would just say it to them. Maybe they have no idea the dog barks like this when they arent there. Do they have any toys or anything for stimulation??? My neighbour told us my 2 dogs were barking alot during the day, I was mortified but obviously had no idea as I wasnt there. I got them different toys and kongs and havent had any complaints since. Pelvic ultrasound - March 2012 - have a small cyst on both left and right
ovary - both are very small!!
Another ultrasound booked for July 31st??

Definitely Tell them !

I was in your neighbours position last summer , id been working or was out of the house alot & was leaving my dog outside during the day, i got a letter from my neighbour, telling me my dog had been barking during the day for months & it was really upsetting them.She didnt feel she could approach me because she didnt know me, I was mortified!!!

The only thing I was pissed off about was that they hadnt told me sooner! I made sure the dog just stayed in during the day when i wasnt there, maybe they could take their dogs in during the day too!

One of our dogs has taken to barking at the kids next door when they come out to play in the garden. We have a water squirter and we give him a small squirt when he does it- nothing too excessive- to stop him.

I would be wary of doing something like this without discussing with your neighbours first but maybe drop into them and tell them that the barking is bothering you during the day and is there anything they do to try stop the barking. If they see you "disciplining" their dog without speaking to them first they might be upset about it.

Have to agree with the other posters...

the squirting of water will def work BUT i wouldn’t be happy if my neighbours just started randomly squiring water over the water without speaking with me first.
Regardless of the reason. It would really p*ss me off if they took it upon themselves to squirt my dog.... it would be like me shouting over the fence at their kids to spot kicking a football against my fence... it wouldn’t be acceptable. ;o(

BUT if they came and spoke with me regarding the barking, I would be grand with it.... plus i would be mortified and get the dog new toys etc to help occupy them during the day etc.

Most dog owners are reasonable... and would be embarrassed if someone complained about the barking and would take measures to try and stop it.

I have a dog and personally I hate dogs barking all day everyday.. no matter what the situation... and I honestly believe if you approach them and explain they will understand and def try and sort the issue out!

I lived in a housing development 2 years ago and same as that the neighbours next door had a dog who barked all day and all night, it was most frustrating. We mentioned to our neighbours but they were not helpful and problem was not solved. Not living there anymore! :)
