Advice on getting a new dog

We already have one dog, a lab and he's brilliant. We'd love to get a second dog, a smaller one but don't know what to get. We've contacted all of our local pounds and shelters and rescues but all they have are mostly males and mostly lurcher type dogs.

We need something small enough but not a handbag dog, absolutely must be good with children as the dog will spend a good bit of time in the house with us.

Anyone any recommendations of either a breed or pound I can try?

Where are you based? I know our local animal rescue has a few medium sized dogs at the moment, there is a gorgeous lab cross, 7 months old and he doesn’t look too big in the photos.

Or do you want a small dog? Say cocker spaniel size or shih tzu size??

Ideally not looking for something as big as a lab and she has to be female as our current dog will not tolerate another male unfortunately.

I'm broken hearted looking through those dogs, so many being given up as people moving abroad or too broke to look after them :o(

Not sure where your based but A Dogs life have some lovely little dogs looking for homes. Also Cork DAWG have some lovely little things.. Good luck finding one.. Keep us posted

Day 3 bloods Dec 2011- ok
Day 21 bloods Dec 2011 - ok
Pelvic ultrasound - March 2012 - have a small cyst on both left and right
ovary - both are very small!!
Another ultrasound booked for July 31st??
