Hydrotherapy pool

Postby SorrentoWife » Tue Mar 27, 2022 3:00 pm

Have any of you used a hydrotherapy pool with your dogs? Theres one in the kennels we use and from reading things online and speaking to different people it looks like something Buddy might enjoy. He has tendancy to have nervous energy, particularly when theres visitors in the house. He's not aggressive or anything, just barks like a lunatic. Also he is a very energetic dog anyway, takes a lot to tire him out! My mum walked him 6 miles one day I was sick, I brought him out that evening prob for about 2 miles and later as soon as dh mentioned the word walk he was gone like a shot to the door and did another 4 miles with him no bother.

The pool place said a lot of insurers pay towards it so contacted our place and they said they take it on a case to case basis and depending on what vet referral says.

One of my dogs has been doing hydrotheraphy on and off for over 3 years and I have a feeling our newest addition is also going to have to go.....our dog was a bag of nerves and I have to say the lady Alisha was fantastic with her everything went at her pace nothing was rushed - as well as a pool she also has a tredmill and she worked on her in the threadmill and is now so comfortable with it that she will walk striaght into it - the pool is a little more of a challenge and she is still nervous and needs encouragement to go into the pool but once in it she loves it and it was fantastic for her got her over her growth spell and now she is on a maintenance program

Our insurance covers it cause its a medical condition but I taking it from your post that you just want to bring him to do it to tire him out (I may be wrong with that) if that is the case I am not sure if your pet insurance will cover it

Its more than just to tire him out. He can be quite nervous (we got him at 15 months and don't know exactly what went on in his life before we got him). He gets nervous when theres a group of people in the house. We had friends over few months ago and he was a wreck when they went. He stood in the kitchen shaking. Think this might be good to help him relax. He'll lie down on the floor and snooze but at the slightest noise he's up. Think if we could get a few sessions of this might make him easier to train and desensitize to certain things if he's in a more relaxed frame of mind.
Will have a chat to vet and see what they think.
