Is your dog indoor/outdoor/both dog?

Ellie is really an indoor dog, she spends most of her time in here but loves her long walks in the countryside or by the beach. She's a border collie so I hate that she's inside so much but she has become a bit of a lap dog and is very cuddley (almost clingy!) which is sweet.

My two are indoor all the way, if the weather is nice and I'm in the kitchen doing housework/computer work then I'll open the patio door and they can mooch out the back but we have the back of the house fenced off so they can't get out anywhere, if I'm going out or even upstairs for a while I'll bring them in.

Sorrento, if Buddy is fine inside and not chewing anything or toileting, would you not just leave him inside, why the determination to get him outside? Don't mean that to sound like anything other than I'm genuinely interested in why, to be honest, if me and husband are out I feel much safer knowing the dogs are inside the house and not about to let anyone in, than if they were outside, nothing to do with their comfort either as I have no problem with dogs being in secure, comfortable runs in their gardens, but purely from a security point of view!!

Eleanor Rigby - one of mine is a border collie mix and she is also a total lap dog (despite her size), really affectionate and loves the warmth of the front room and the comfort of a sofa!!

I don't mind that he's inside but I'd like him to be able to go out as well. I'll never leave him outside for long periods of time more to give him a change of scenery for while on and off. And to be more relaxed in the garden and see it as a nice place to be.
He'll always sleep indoors and be here when we're at work etc.

i've 2 dogs and they are indoor dogs but my retriever loves being outside aswell. I'm at home alot and I usually leave the back door open and she will sit just outside it looking around until I bring her in and these evenings where is it brighter and warmer (well some nights) she likes to sit outside the front of the house watching the world go by. My other dog prefers being indoors!! He was a rescue and was outside until we got him, we had a job to get him comfortable inside for ages but now he is used to it we he is happy out - as I type this he is lying on the couch beside me with his big belly in the air!!!!

We have 3 - 2 of them sleep out at night - when I say "out" I don't mean under the stars! They have a big run at the back of the garage and a doggie "hole" going into the garage where they have their own room with a large snug kennel partitioned off with a roof on it so its extra warm (garage is really well insulated aswell) When we are here during the day (which is nearly everyday) they are out in the garden or coming and going in and out of the house if the weather is nice. When it gets dark they come in for a few hours snooze and then I put them out usually around 9pm but could be midnight some nights!

Our 3rd dog is the one we have the longest (nearly 6 yrs) and the oldest, he could be around 8/9 years old and about 5 months ago he decided he would like to sleep in the house at night so we said "ok" :o0 We think the younger dog was annoying him outside in the kennel coz we would hear him barking at night and then he was refusing to go out (before this he would run out when you said the word "bed"!) so we knew something was up. Then he made his bed under the coffee table in the conservatory on a pillow that I had put down for the cats and when we say bed now to the others he gets up and goes there :lvs For a dog that hated cats he now sleeps in the same room as 3 of them and one morning I caught him sharing his bed with one of the cats, of course the minute he saw me he jumped up and lunged at the cat :o0 He's very good and never chews anything or never goes to the toilet, he used never dirty his kennel either - very clean dog he was that way when we got him so someone must have taught him (we got him as a stray)

The other 2 love going out to their bed - they nearly break down the door to get out.

TBH Id be afraid that you might start awakening some bad memories for buddy by putting him in the kennel/run and he might start having behavioural issues?

We rehomed an older lady and we thought that we were doing the right thing by setting her up indoors as she was housetrained and we thought that we would be offering her pampering in her dotage... hmmmm... she had other ideas...... didnt want to stay in at night at all... Evening time loves to cuddle in front of the fire, if Im home she will stay in most of the day but mention bed and its a bolt to the door.. we decided that she was too old to change so we got a lovely box for her and put it into the shed and insulated it which was great.. so she has two roofs!! :) she was happy out.. When the REALLY COLD weather was in, we tried to make her stay in and we had whinging and all sorts of shenanigans..!!! So consulted the vet and took the temp in her box... He said we were probably stressing her by forcing her to stay in! So we went to bed very late and i got a lovely reflective blanket that is basically tinfoil and sheepskin on top. It reflects the heat back on the dog. we heated the shed too and she was toasty!!! :) Our second one was a stray and he just loves indoor luxury!!! would happily never see outdoors except to piddle and poop and walk!!! but he is very attached to the other one so wants to go to bed with her! :) Funny little yokes doggies!!!
