Opposition about going abroad?

Opposition about going abroad?

Postby brideorbridezilla » Fri May 04, 2022 10:01 am

Hi,

I was just wondering are there many out there who came again opposition about getting married abroad?

I have tried to accomodate everyone with cheap prices and suitable dates, but some of my close friends (not being mean) but either can't afford it or can't make the date. My wedding wouldn't be the same without them so what do I do? What have you all done?

Do / did you feel guilty asking people to pay the money to go?

Did you find that closer to everyone booking that they ended up booking in the end?

Any advice is much appreciated?

Thanks x

oh i totally feel guilty about the expense people are going to just to come to our wedding so i've tried to do my best to make it as cost effective, i made a website with lots of info, gave them recommendations for accomodation to suit all budgets, recommended cheap places to eat, pointed out all supermakets etc On top of that we are trying to put on best day possible, there will be wine all throughout dinner and then free bar for 4 hours after so hopefully people wont have to put their hand in their pocket too much and we are putting on BBQ day after.

In saying that we knew there would always be opposition and people who couldnt afford to come. My closest aunt and family cant come as she was made redundant and uncle down to 4 day week so it is just impossible for them and its breaking my heart and if we had the spare cash we would pay for them to come but we dont. I think this is just one of the cons with having a wedding abroad.

I would have to say we didn't have major opposition, H2B were a little apprehensive, i think they were worried about what we were doing and probably had visions of a wedding in a benidorm style resort :o0 But they came with us last week to spain to do our menu tasting and they absolutely loved the place and the hotel and came back raving about it which was great so i would say anyone with any opposition will most likely change their mind as soon as they land in the sun and chill out and the drink is flowing :yelrotflmaosmilie:

Try to relax there is only so much you can do, people will either go or they wont, you've done all you can and it is up to them. Both our immediate families booked after xmas, few close friends booked close after and its been a steady flow since and i still get a wee buzz when someone tells me they are sorted. In saying that, two of H2B best men still havent booked so i wouldnt worry about it too much, they'll do it in their own time. I was a weeeeeeeeeeee bit of a control freak at the start thinking everyone should book now to get cheap flights but i gave up on that they'll do it in their own time, its outta my control.

I had so much opposition at the start, but i stuck with my decision even though i cried so many nights about people not going, but i have to say i am so glad now i am having my wedding abroad, it just felt right for us as a couple to go abroad, we have always loved travelling, so to go away for our big day was just natural to us, we never intended to do it as a way of putting people out, its just what we both as a couple wanted to do, at the very beginning hardly anyone was going we were thinking max 20, 5 months to the wedding there is 74!!!! so it just shows, but saying that most are family, a lot of friends cant go due to the big 'R' but shur thats life, at the end of the day, all i can say is i am so so so delighted i am heading to the sun for my big day (Italy) and my advise is to follow your heart and try as much as you can NOT to Worry about other people, and do what you and your OH feel is right for ye!!! :wv

We didn't have any opposition but there are people that can't make it. My H2b's sister can't make it as she has 2 small kids and it's too long a flight. His best friend can't make it either for money reasons. I offered to pay for her but she didn't want to accept it. None of our extended families can go e.g. aunts and uncles etc. We knew when booking though as it's really far and really expensive!

Definitely feel guilty about people paying the money. Trying to make up for it by planning to make sure they have the trip of a lifetime.

I definitely

I hear you, we have faced alot of opposition!! And to be honest I was gutted at the amount of rsvps that came back saying they couldnt come. We invited 120 and our final numbers are looking to be at 55. Pretty much all of the refusals were to do with money. And I was the same, gave 2 years notice, plenty of options etc etc but at the end of the day its their decision. I guess I didnt realise how bad things were in Ireland, but my mum likes to remind me everytime I call so I am getting the picture!

We were actually surprised that some people we had counted on coming like close aunts and uncles cant make it but then people we never expected to come like friends who live here in Australia are flying over to Italy to be with us! We will have a brilliant day regardless but I did feel guilty about having it abroad, but we are doing it for us at the end of the day!

With the money we are going to save we are putting on a better menu option and will probably do something the day before or after so it will work out better for the people that are coming :)
