Harpist - Tyrone area?

Harpist - Tyrone area?

Postby Cowpat » Thu Sep 09, 2022 11:08 am

Hey girls.

I'm looking for a harpist to play at our civil ceremony next September in Cookstown. Can anyone recommend a good one at reasonable cost.

Got back a quote from one player so far and nearly had to be worked with on hearing her prices!!! :eek

Hi there
I picked up a card at a hotel wedding fair from two girls who play together and although I dont have the details at the minute - I can give them to you when I get home - it was £150 for an hour and a half as far as I remember.
Is that good or bad compared to your quote?

That is alot better than the quote I got. I had previously got another quote from a young fella that played at a wedding fayre in Derry; £75 for the civil ceremony, I can't remember how much extra for the drinks reception after. Only thing making me hesitate about booking him is that he's young.... I worry that he'll be off doing something different by this time next year. :duh:

The type of harpist can reflect the difference in price. The girl I work with is a concert harpist (the huge big harp) based in Coleraine. If you are looking for an Irish harpist (the smaller traditional harp) then you could check out the website for Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann - they have branches up north.

To be honest I dont know if these were big harps or wee harps but they were quite young as well (early 20s?). Though if they were advertising at a wedding show and they know that generally people make bookings for 1-2 years in advance I'd like to think they would intend to honour a booking. But I see where you are coming from. I'll PM you the details later this evening.

Thanks MrsJPM2be, I appreciate it.

The guy I seen had a big harp.... But I wouldn't have a clue what kind it was. Don't know what difference there is in the sound or what kind of music they'd play on each either?

Would you consider a classical guitarist? I can play most music that is played on the harp.

I got sorted. Went with Irene Coyle;

I found her on a google search and got to meet up with her to hear her play at Kees Hotel, Stanorlar for thier wedding fayre. She even took time to play me some of the music I'd mentioned to her via email, which made my day. :heartbeat:
