Causes of Colic and Its Treatments

My dd is still very windy and a terrible sleeper as a result. I'm giving her Udo's probiotic to see if that helps with the intestinal pain. Thought it was all wind ingestion but mow that she can burp pretty well I know it's intestinal gas. I bf'd exclusively for 6 months and introduced aptimal 1 formula in the last 2 weeks and it's made the wind worse. She does 3-5 dirty nappies a day whether bf or combo fed and I reckon she overfeeds to move on the pain. Didn't put on a lot of weight tho. It just all goes thru her. Just started the probiotic so fingers crossed.

Hi ladies,

Haven't been on here in a long time. Just back from my maternity leave after having my little girl 6 1/2 months ago. Our little lady had colic which started in the first 2 weeks after she was born. She is bottlefed and at first we didn't know what was going on, none of our families had ever suffered. I quickly found out what it was though and tried every single remedy in the book, from all that has been suggested here (Infacol, colief, gripe water) to the rocking in a dark room, baby massage, EVERYTHING.

When she was about 11 weeks and one morning I was particularly exhausted and at the end of my tether after being up til 4am with a screaming I rang the PHN who told me about Mahers Pharmacy in Clonmel who do their own herbal remedy simply called "The Colic Mixture". You just ring them up, give them your laser card details and they post it out to you that very same day & you have it the following day. You add 5 mls to each bottle and within 2 days we never had another colic episode again. I swear to God I could have cried and then crawled all the way to Clonmel to kiss whoever made this mixture from head to toe, it was the only thing that worked. I kept my little miss on it til she was 16 weeks and she was like a different baby. So happy & smiley and content.

Felt like putting an ad on the radio for all the people out there just suffering on. I must've been at the doctor 3/4 times begging them to do something but as long as she was putting on weight they just said "she'll grow out of it". I wanted to slap them straight in the face >:o(

So anyway girls, hope this helps someone. Maybe its already widely known about on here I just haven't been on for months so said I'd do a quick post!!!

Has anyone else tried the formula made by the pharmacy in Clonmel? Does anyone know what it contains?

BEG34, see my post above, I found it a lifesaver, it was the only thing that worked for my DD, definitely try it, it just contains natural ingredients such as peppermint & chamomile but in the right doses for a baby..........best of luck hope you find it as good as I did O-O

Rattles, believe me I know how hard it is, we were at our wits end with our LO, it was SO hard to watch her in that pain and there was nothing we could do for her, I found the GP's were absolutely useless. I hated having to give her different things as she was so small but I just wanted to help her. Really didn't want to give her anything else but as it was a herbal remedy with natural ingredients I said I would just try this one last thing and it was like magic little drops from heaven. She finally became the baby that I knew she was and all her wind came out in big farts and burps and she was as happy as larry. It is €20 per bottle which lasts for 10 days which I know is expensive but when you are going through it you would give €100 for a bottle if it works. I was so nervous for ages that it would happen again but as long as I was giving her the drops there was never another colic episode. Like I said I took her off the drops at 16 weeks and she was totally fine at that stage, I could even put her straight down to sleep in her cot (without having to put her to sleep in my arms) & she started sleeping straight through the night.

Hope you have the same results with it :wv

hi just wanted to list all the stuff I have tried for my baba and let you know what worked for us:

Gripe Water - didnt help
Lactease - worked for a while
Faith Healer - worked for a while
Dentanox - worked for a while
Infacol - worked after 6 weeks
Mahers mixture - didnt work
Gaviscon - worked but made him constipated
Aptamil Comfort - not really sure but he is still on it
Duphlac - for constipation; worked
New Era Homeopathy tablets for Intigestion & Colic - worked (so far)
Cool boiled water with sugar - worked eventually
baby apple juice - just started using as duphlac was giving him cramps so i switch between both and cooled boiled water
Dr. Brown's bottles - worked (also changed to level 2 teat & have noticed a big improvment in that it only takes him 20min to feed as opposed to nearly an hour!!)
Vibrucol drops - worked for a while
Neuners Herbal Tea for babies - trying this today

Babs is 12 weeks now and I am just giving him New Era tabs and cooled boiled water or apple juice (diluted with cooled boiled water) and infacol. have noticed a huge improvement so maybe these are working or else he is just growing out of it.... still have a good hour of screaming in the evenings but at least its not all night and day now!!

Hi again,

We have tried it and i have to say, it is really helping with our DS (im nearly afraid to even write that lol!!)

So much so, that my husband is a wee bit concerned, he thinks it must be full of God knows what to knock the child out or something...i keep telling him that our DS is just being the child he always was, just ALOT more content.

Thanks so much for the recommendation! :thnk

Ok, i rang them this morning and asked what was in it and was told that it is just 'pharmaceutical salts and water' and that it has been tried for over 40 years and is perfectly safe.

Im none the wiser though, what are pharmaceutical salts?

(I googled and im still confused!!)
