On my last nerves

On my last nerves

Postby Dollydo » Sat May 12, 2022 8:15 pm

As the title says, I'm Losing my patience with ds and bedtime. I'm actually starting to dread trying to put him down and my fraying temper that's going with it. He just DOESN'T want to sleep! Cot, big boy bed, my bed, buggy... He just doesn't sleep! We brought him for a walk and literally ran the legs off him in a last effort to see if it would tire him... He's still awake 2.5 hours later. Our evenings are gone completely because one or other of us, usually me, are trying to get him asleep. I really dont want to cry it out but it's coming to that maybe unless I find a way. And how will that work now his cot is gone anyway?
ANY tips most welcome!
Oh and he's 24 months old so not a new baby, he knows when he's being bold and when I'm telling him it's night night time!
Hope springs eternal

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time.
The only suggestion I have is to cry it out. I know you're not keen on the idea and it's not for everyone but it worked for us when DS was 12months.
I guess with DS in a big bed you could go in every few minutes and place him back in bed?
How long does DS nap for?

Thanks EM, he finally went asleep at 10pm being pushed in his buggy. He napped today for 30 mins. He could have none or up to 90 minutes and it makes no odds. He still won't sleep and he still will get up by 7/7.30. Maybe he just doesn't need the sleep but then he could be like a bag of cats when he gets tired but he fights sleep like nobodies business!
Drastic measures will need to be had I think :o(

Our little man is 2 year 1 month.
We run the legs off him too to try to get him to sleep and today I bought him an indoor trampoline to wear him out on rainy days.
We put him to bed at 9 cos we thought he wasnt tired enuf to sleep before that time.
We used to get him into his jammies an hour before bed time and give him a snack and talk about bed for an hour, and read a story, then down to the bedroom brush teeth, into the grow bag and into the cot CUE crying and "up" for an hour.
This was the bedtime routine.
We changed it two nights ago and it might be just a coincidense (sp?) but he has gone to sleep straight away.

We put talk about bed for half an hour, then bring him down and put him in his grow bag and then sit him on the couch for half an hour and give him his snack, then brush teeth and bed. He is literally falling asleep on the couch, I think the growbag immobilises him and so he has to sit and relax (he is not a child who stays still for any lenght of time), this calms him enough to be able to sleep.

I think the old way, he never really wound down. Anyway I could write book about sleep- he only started sleeping tru the night at about 22 months.

Anyway, if my idea does not suit ur family, at least u know ur not alone *)

I just realised Dolly do that you are the lady who recommended the trampoline for me. You can see why I want one- to wear LO out!
