Claiming back vrt for adapted vehicle?

We have second hand car which will need adapting to take a wheelchair. When it is adapted we can claim back the vat & vrt. Does anybody know how long it takes for the repayment to come through? Thanks

DH is in car sales so I asked him already. Do you already own the car? He said if so, you may only claim the VAT back and you should get this within a month but if it's a 2nd hand car that you're buying you'll get the VRT off the price of the car.
