Running thread

Hi guys!. . . I'm back :-8

I have been a bad runner, have done hardly anything the past few weeks (months even!) but started back at it this week!

Sposa- OMG well done!! I can't even comprehend running a half marathon let alone doing a full one when you're 10weeks pregnant! Well done, you did a great time too! You must be chuffed! Have you been gettin out much lately?

I am hoping to do the AWARE 5mile 10th Dec- This week I did 2x 2.5 runs, a hefty gym workout and some walking. All motivation went out the window the past while and I've no excuses! Job-hunting at the mo so I need running more than ever to clear my head and relieve some stress. . .

How is everyone else doing? I hope ye have all been more successful with the running than me anyway but that wouldn't be hard! :wv

I meant to get back on sooner to let you girls know how I got on in the Leanane 5mile race.
I finished it in 57mins! By no means was that fast. I normally do 5miles in about 54mins. I'm always trying to improve my time and get faster.
Anyway I was happy enough with that time as the course was harder than I expected. Much hillier than I expected. But the scenery was really lovely along the way.
I'm delighted I did the race as it was only my 2nd ever race to enter. :o)ll
Having a week off from running at the minute as I have been out three times a week pretty much since the summer.
I'll get back out there next week.

How is everyone else doing??

Well done Mrs.B to be!!! Bet you are delighted with yourself!! What is your next plan of action?

I've had a slowish week, did a big 2& half hr walk, a 2 and a half mile run yesterday and also did 5k on the treadmill in 30mins-It was my longest treadmill stint yet and I feel like im getting a bit more confident running on it! Lost a day to a hangover this week too :-8

Also had a gym assessment this week & it was a bit of a wake up call! BMI is 26 & the scales aren't my friend!!! I was also massively dehydrated which is bound to be affecting my runs- thing is it's so cold for drinking water- I have tea on tap these days!

Hoping to do a run in the morning but havn't decided distance yet. . . .Then boozing tomorrow night and then no drink until I do that 5mile. . . . . O-O

My next plan of action is to just keep the running ticking over. I'm gonna try and improve my times for the 5mile distance and work towards building up to 10k. Especially with the colder weather i dont want to feel too guilty if i dont get out running three rimes a week.
In the new year I'll sign up for a 10k.
My BMI is 19 at the minute as I've lost about two stone since I started running.
When I increase my distances I'll have to Watch what I eat and make sure I'm eating enough!!
I might sign up and do that 5mile aware run:)

OMG 2 stone is AMAZING Mrs. B!!! Well done! When I started doing bits of running in my early 20s the weight fell off but it's so much harder to shift now in my late 20's (never used to believe women when they said weight loss gets harder as you get older!). You will have no bother doing a 10k as it's only an extra mile on what you are doing already :o)ll

I'm looking forward to the AWARE run, I think closing date is 4th Dec! Keep me posted on your training. Im a bit of a weirdo because I think I prefer running in the winter- It's a lot easier to warm up on a cold night running than it is to cool down on a hot day plus the darker evenings are more forgiving for the red cheeks :-8 !

I actually never intended to lose weight when I started running! It just happened. I more wanted to get fitter and with saving for the wedding, joining a gym is just too dear.
Running is free:)
Anyway Im 5ft 11 i was 11st 11pds and now in 9st 11pds
I was shocked when I saw the weight loss. I really shouldn't go any lower. Might concentrate on some toning now. Maybe do that 30 day shred program.

Thanks WildOne, I didn't know about the closing date.
I know what you mean about the red cheeks. I'm like a tomato after I run lol!

Hi Girls.

I'm quite new to both WOL & the running :)

I used to run on a treadmill a good bit last year, but then I just stopped. Isn't it amazing how hard it is to get back into it and how easy - just to stop :)

Well our wedding isn't until next June so I have a good bit of time to tone up. Starting tomorrow!!! 3 times a week!!! Hopefully I will be able to keep it up. Joining local Yoga group this Wednesday as well, so hopefully it will help too!!!

Well I'll keep you posted :lvs

Hi girls

Sorry if this is a bit O/T for this thread.....but can any of you recommend a good long sleeve top for running in the colder weather? Something that could be worn as a base layer and then I could put a top over it.
I was looking at some of the long sleeve tops on the runireland.com website. Just not sure what to be looking for or if these would be suitable.

If you have any tips, let me know
Thanks :)

Haven't seen the ones on runireland but I'd highly recommend either Helly Hansen's tops or else Skins compression thermal long sleeves. Both of these got me through last winter and when you warm up in them you tend to stay at a comfortable level.

Happy new year runners!!

OK, I have been beyond atrocious with my running and yet again am hoping to get back on the bandwagon so here goes another attempt to get back at it. Any weight I lost during the year I pretty much put on O:| , my jeans are stuck to me (ones that I used to be able to pull over my hips. . :duh: ) so I'm thinking I have close to 3stone that I have to try and drop :o( !!

1st course of action is Feb 11th Cupids dash, changed from Phoenix Park to Clontarf beach this year (10km). Going to just start very gently this week.

I REALLY wana get my running on this year and hope ya'll can keep your updates coming!
