Can changing Pill affect your mood?
I was recently changed from Marviol to Mercilon - doc said to try it for a month or 2 to see if it suited me. I've been on Marviol for several years. I've taken one pack of Mercilon so far, finished the pack on Wednesday.
I've been feeling very very down for the past few weeks. I've had a knot in my chest and in my stomach recently and haven't been able to identify why. I feel anxious and generally worried all the time. I wake up every morning before the alarm and just lie there feeling anxious. Work is always mental but I cope pretty well but this week I've sat there with tears in my eyes several times and I've hardly talked at all with my colleagues. Even things I normally enjoy just don't mean anything - usually DH and I will go out or get a takeaway during the week but this week I just couldn't be bothered. Same with TV programmes I enjoy - I just haven't cared. Myself and DH took the week before last off work - we had a really nice week together - chilled out, went out every day, had lunch or dinner out each day, went to the movies and really relaxed but all the time I was completely conscious of this knot of anxiety or tension inside me that just wouldn't go away. Tonight on the bus home for the first time in ages I suddenly realised I felt 'normal' again - I was excited about the weekend. DH is out tonight and I was looking forward to having the house to myself and watching the soaps and some MTV rubbish that I totally enjoy. I'm sitting here and I feel totally content - about to put on my cosy PJ's and hop into bed to watch Idiot Abroad and it's the happiest I've felt in weeks. Was I just going through a down phase or something? (I dont' ever remember feeling this low before in my whole life - I was on the edge of tears many many times for no apparent reason). It's been going on for pretty much 3 weeks - I can think back to the last weekend I felt fine which was before I changed pill. Was it just a coincidence or could it be changing the Pill? Anyone experienced this?
Re: Can changing Pill affect your mood?
In short yes, the pill can do this to you, I had a quick look at the information provided for this drug and anxiety is a potential side effect.
I was on the pill while a teenager, but came off it as it was playing havoc on my blood pressure. It was only after I came off it that I realised it was also affecting my moods, I felt so much better after coming off it! Fast track to this summer.... I temporarily went back on the pill in order to alter my cycle as I was due AF on my wedding day. Well within 48 hours of being back on it, I was feeling very low, and the anxiety built from there, not to mention libido was non existent! I snapped at my DH more in those few weeks than in our entire relationship. When I came off it, my DH asked me to never go back on it again, he is happy to be responsible for contraception ![]() If I were you OP, I would go back to your GP, life is too short to have pill induced anxiety. Re: Can changing Pill affect your mood?
Thanks so much for replying - I was thinking it really must be something else, maybe I'm a little depressed or something. I've been googling and it seems that this can happen temporarily when you change pill. I've been on and off the pill for many many years but I've only ever been on 2 types and never experienced these feelings before. I'm feeling just fine since Friday and I'm due to start my next pack next Thursday. The doc only gave me 2 packs to see how I get on so if the same thing happens when I start back on it I'm going to go back and say it obviously doesn't suit me. It was quite scary to feel so low, everything seemed so overwhelming, I felt like I was drowning in worry and anxiety and I couldn't find pleasure in anything at all. Not at all fair on DH either, I know I've been very short with him.
Thanks again for telling me about your experience - it's helped hugely to know this can happen.
Re: Can changing Pill affect your mood?
I was on Mercilon for 10 years with no issues, the minute I changed pills it all went down hill and my head went crazy. I am such a happier person off the pill!
If it has tyres or testicles it will give you trouble.
Re: Can changing Pill affect your mood?
