Kettlebells or Body Pump

Kettlebells or Body Pump

Postby mummytime » Thu Nov 17, 2021 2:16 pm

Hi All

Does anyone know which is better - Kettlebells or Body Pump?

I have been attending body pump classes for almost a year however recently started Kettlebells. I tend to not feel as sore after the Kettlebell classes though and wondered if that meant it was less effective. Kettlebells seems to focus mainly on legs and core so I am guessing will not help to tone my arms at all.

does Kettlebells build muscle at all?

Thx

I do kettlebells and Ive come home and not been able to lift my arms above my head! I find it great for my arms, core and legs. What kind of exercises are they doing in the class? If your not feeling it in your arms have you moved up the kettlebell weights? I started on a 5kg and Im on 7.5kg now but some of the girls in our class are lifting 10kgs.

ETA I had NO upper body strength before I started and have seen a big improvement, can see the muscle toning and there is definition in my arms from the kettlebells classes.

I haven't tried body pump but I love kettlebells when I'm motivated enough to use them! :yelrotflmaosmilie: They can be very good for toning arms I'd hate to think what mine would be like without using the kettlebell. I started on an 8 kg and I use a 10 kg for most of the arm exercises.

Geat post. Speaking as a qualified bodypump instructor and physcial therapist, I conclude that bodypump is a safer class. You really need to get a one to one session with the kettlebell instructor to really see how the moves are done safely. I have never had a client come to me injured, but a few have come to me after kettlebell workouts.

Also, in bodypump you can add good weight to the bar and tone up fast. When you think about hurting your lower back in the past picking up a box or something similar, it was the sudden stop or start that caused the pain. Ask yourself this, do you suddenly stop or start bent over movements in kettlebells? You don't in bodypump, so I think we can all see the answer here.

Hope this info helps.

I've been doing kettlebells for about 2 years now and pump for about 1. Personally I feel I burn more calories in kbs rather than pump. Just make sure you're challenging yourself and you'll be grand. Pump is great for toning but I never feel as wrecked after pump as I do afterbells.

I started out swinging 8s and now I swing 20kg. I do most ARM exercises Qiu a 12 ...except for tricep, that's 10.

Here's a challenge for u if u feel ur not getting a lot out of your bell class....overhead swing 16 kg....! I've been doing bells for 2 years and this one single handedly kills me every time! swing for 1 min whilst always keeping your tummy tensed.
