Well I joined the gym.

Well I joined the gym.

Postby lilywhite2012 » Sun Nov 20, 2021 4:34 pm

As the title suggests I joined the gym this afternoon and had my first session with one of the gym instructors who did me up a programme. I don't need to lose weight but definitely need to increase my fitness and tone up. My god, I feel like crap after it!!!! My arms are shaking from all the weight exercises.
I know I'll get the results if I keep at it but I'm a serial gym joiner and end up quitting after a few weeks.
Motivation please!!!!

Hello fellow sisters !
I am the same, I joined one in Waterford back in June with a friend from college. Havent been since August but since he popped the question 2 weeks ago I have been thinking more and more about going back to it, I will have to pay the balance of the membership anyways so I may aswell. And with the winter nights I aint gonna get exercise in after work with the dark nights. I work 9-5 and its pitch dark when I get outta work, I also live in country so walking the roads just aint an option if you dont wanna get knocked down.
Just think positive. If I go home I can sit on the couch or go on the threadmill (Lately I am choosing the easier option) But if you go to the gym you actually have to do the exercise and havent got an option and once you get into the exercise I feel that after 10 / 15 mins you get in the mood for it xxxx Hope that was enough motivation for ya :)

I have lost a stone and a half over the last few months going to the gym :o)ll another "few" pounds to go!!! But I have to say it took me ages to actually get into going. Now i love it. I find though best thing to do is to go straight from work because I know once my ass hits the sofa I'll never get back out! I find competing with myself works... trying to beat my times from the last session. Aiming for an extra minute or two on the cross trainer etc. Also getting into a routine of going makes me want to go. I go every second day. Also some gym music helps! I have playlist on my ipod that I change every week or so.

Best of luck :o)ll

Hey lilywhite,

Well done for joining it! I think the hardest part is getting the guts up to just go there and join up - I was putting it off for MONTHS. No lie - I was actually saying to my friends for months Oh I'm joining the gym and they were like welllll WHEN??!

I finally joined about 5 weeks ago and have really got into it. I haven't lost a pound but am feeling so much better. I was THE most unfit person - HATED exercise, of any form. I had tried Couch 2 5k but failed miserably with shin splints and stuff but I am finding jogging on the treadmill so much easier and have worked up to 5k. Now I take 2 minute breaks every 7 minutes to let myself recover slightly so I don't get it done in the 30 minutes but I am very proud of how far I've come already.

I second what excited lady said about music - I've spent a fortune on itunes but it honestly helps to spur you on and changing the playlist every few weeks keeps it different. I have no idea how people work out without music!

I'd also say try to keep it regular that you go. I am in a gym close to my wok so Mon - Thurs or Fri its great but if I'm out on a Friday night and then don't go Sat and Sunday it's really a chore to go back Monday - I kinda dread it then but once I've gone again the Monday I'm fine and swear to myself I'll just travel the distance and go once over the weekend - doesn't tend to happen though :o0

Best of luck with it all - keep me updated with how you're getting on! :o)ll

I find if I go to the gym on Monday it makes it easier to go on Tuesday so I've a good start to the week. Ideally I would like to do four days a week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I've been doing three. I got a new programme and should have had an assesment the beginning of this month. But life caught up on me! I started a new job and I had my driving test which meant lots of lessons and practicing in the evenings after work so I was nowhere near the gym for two weeks (passed the test :o)ll ) Then I hit the gym complete with my new playlist to help keep myself motivated. I got the flu and was out of the gym for over a week. I started back in the gym on Monday and can feel the start of the flu coming again! A dress that I have oggled in magazines has finally come into stock and I really want to try it on. I have been waiting since I got engaged (end of August) for it to come into stock. It's finally in and I just feel like I haven't done enough in the gym to go and try it on. It's a very slim fit and will be very unforgiving. So I've made a pact with myself to try and get to the gym as much as I can and I'll make an appointment for January to try on the dress. It's the motivation that I need. I would love to do some classes in the gym but they aren't on until 7 or 8. I know if I don't go to the gym on my way home from work I won't go back outside in the horrible weather to go to the gym.
