Couch 2 5k

Girls, I finished Week 3 last Thurs. On Sat I attempted week 4, day 1 but I just wasn't able to do the second 5 minute job. So last night I went back and did another week 3 one. It's my calf muscles that are letting me down, quite painful. I'm afraid that I'll injure myself and have to stop so I'd rather stay doing week 3 for another while before I move on again. What do ye think of this? Should I push myself and keep moving on??

I am doing it outside so far (on soft ground, not road) but will have to try and get a second hand treadmill for the winter.

Do any of ye do stretches etc to warm up? Anyone else having problems with calf muscles??

I stopped the last time (during week 1) as my calves were killing me. So far so good this time although I get a stitch on the 15 minute mark every day in my right side.

I do a series of leg stretches before I start and I think they make the difference. My OH did Bootcamp a couple of years ago and went through the stretches with me.

Google for stretches before running but at a minimum make sure you stretch your thighs and calves.

Well done busy bee, I was looking at week four n thought it didn't seem too bad , but now ya have me worried. I skipped one day and now i finished week three day one tonight even though I have sore back I was glad to get out. I actually kept running after the cool down part cos I still had some distance to get home n felt great after it.

Maybe I wasnt in the "zone". Some days I feel like I could run and run and other days I struggle. It depends hydration levels and time of day. I'm much better in even and when I'm not starving!!

I did week 2 day 3 on Saturday with no issues so I'll start week 3 tomorrow. Week 4 is the week that I expect to start struggling.

How is everyone getting on? I completed week 4 run 2 today and it was manageable. Starting to feel great now- like I have more wind. I had a week between run 1 and 2 due to work commitments and thought it might have been very difficult but was grand. Hope ye are all doing well.

I did week 3, day 2 yesterday evening and it was grand. I feel like I could probably do more (I'm only doing 3 runs a week) but as I was so unfit to start with I don't want to push myself too much. My calves were killing me by the end of the second 3 minute jog last night but they're fine today.

I'm not toning up at all yet but I'm hoping that will start happening in the next few weeks.

Hi Ladies,

Can i ask what is the official app for this? I have an android phone and when i go to download one, theres several diff ones. Is one better than another and is there one thats free? I downloaded one but not sure if its the right one?

Do you listen to the work out as you are walking/running?

Thanks a mill :)

Hi Andi,

I have an iPhone not Android and I use the active.com app. You can listen to your own music through the app and your instructor tells you when to walk/ jog.
It counts down on the screen and, if you turn on GPS, tracks the route you run and tells you the distance covered and the average speed. I find it really good.

It was either free or a couple of euro, can't remember which.

Girls, I started this last week and did the three sessions for week one but my shins are KILLING ME! I said I'd give it a break for a few days and so only went out yesterday and I swear to god, the second I started to jog my shins were in bits. Obviously I know it's shin splints, but how can I stop them/avoid them? Anyone else have this issue? I've got aiscs trainers and was running on tarmac.
