Dairy Substitute

I don't consume much dairy anyways but I've been advised to give it up completely in the hope of clearing up some chest problems I have.
What can I consume instead to up my calcium intake and protect my bones?

Green, leafy veg actually has more calcium in it than milk. The darker green the better. Nuts have a high calcium content too (so you can use almond milk in place of cow's milk for example). Calcium tablets are also available in most health shops but if you eat enough veg you shouldn't need them to be honest. HTH :)

Thanks for the reply hippy chic.
The only veg I eat are potatoes, carrots and broccoli and I eat them daily.
Is that enough do you think?
I'd prefer not to eat nuts and I'm on a diet (starting tomorrow!).

Nuts are not the enemy to diets that people paint them as, the fats they contain are the "good", usable fats, not the ones that your body stores but instead the ones that it puts to work. They are so good for you, honestly. Raw nuts that is, not the roasted and salted and chocolate covered ones (sadly!). Throw some cashew nuts in a stir-fry, or some flaked almonds into your porridge (I made cranberry and pistachio porridge the other morning and it was YUM!).

Green leafy veg unfortunately means cabbage, pak choi, kale, and all that gang. Lettuce is in there too, carrot juice, tofu, fish eaten with bones (mackerel etc), lentils, split peas. If you google non-dairy sources of calcium there's a good few results. The vegan's have been all over this for years so a vegan site is a good place to start - if anyone knows about the different qualities of veg it's someone who survives solely on them!
