Overdoing exercise?

Overdoing exercise?

Postby Debb2010 » Fri Jan 20, 2022 5:35 pm

I just wonder am I overdoing exercise at the moment? I'm really tired this past week and usually exercise energises me - perhaps I'm just a bit run down or something.

I normally exercise to dvd's 3 times a week plus one weekend morning - 45 mins approx during the week and close to an hour at the weekends. I also do stomach exercises and skipping. At lunchtime I normally walk maybe 3 times per week for 30 mins.

I lost a stone in 2010 and I now maintain my weight with the above exercise at 7 stone 11/12 lbs. (not as light as it sound - I'm 5ft 3ins and have a very small frame)

I put on 4 lbs at Christmas so I'm working on losing this (2 gone so far) so I've been exercising more - 5 days a week walking for 30 minutes and exercising to my dvd's 5 or 6 times a week for 45/50 mins.

Is this overdoing it a bit or is it ok - just wondering if any trainers or gym instructors could advise?

hi there, I exercise 3-4 times aweek either a spinning, toning, cardio classes. I mix it all up. I'm 5.1 in height and 8 stone 7lbs now. On my wedding day i was 7.11lbs and considered under weight for my height. i'm like you very small in frame so i didn't pass any heed at time and i wanted to be slim and toned on my wedding day as my dress was very fitted.
But looking back now i looked extremely thin and a few pictures i look back on i look pale. while exercise is good for you and increases energy levels, i think your exercise plan is a bit too much for you. Have you checked your bmi. 5.3 and under 8 stone may be quiet under. Take care of yourself, be healthy that is the important thing. Been under weight leads to so many other problems in life later on hun.

Hi Lovebaby, many thanks for your response and advice. I honestly don't think I'm underweight - I'm not silly about weight but my frame has always been very narrow and until I was in my 30's I only weighed 7 stone and honestly didn't look underweight. When I do put on weight, even 5 or 6 lbs it just goes to my stomach and I get a pot belly!

I do think I'm doing a small bit too much at the moment so I might cut the lunchtime walking down to 4 times a week and the dvd's to 4 per week instead of 5 or 6.

To be honest i still think 4 times walking and 4 times DVD is too much, unless your food intake is large. Sorry!! Ask any fitness instructor.
If you have a pot belly like we all do have, do core exercises rather that cardio which is buring fat which equals shifting lbs. pilates is great for core/tummy area.
You dont need to lose weight seriously, your feeling so sluggish and tired as your doing way way too much. Your BMI is already under for your height/weight, sorry. The reason you are this size and smaller in your 30's is due to your strict exercise routine, you eat, you burn off, your tired as your body is craving fuel. One is canceling the other out.
I'm smaller in height than you and weigh more and my BMI is just perfect. I'm a size 8.
Before when i was 7 11lbs my BMi was way under, looking back i felt crap anyways, skin, hair is in better condition now.
Please just be careful and healthy. x

Thanks again Lovebaby, I appreciate the advice and seeing it written down there you're right, 8 or 9 sessions of exercise a week is a bit too much. I'm going to cut the walking down to 3 or 4 lunchtimes this week and the dvd down to 3 and see how I feel after that.

Increase Stamina:

components of a safe, effective exercise program are Frequency, intensity, and time or duration,
Do not accelerate your workout time too rapidly,
