I Quit!!!!

I Quit!!!!

Postby Carriedaway » Wed Feb 15, 2022 9:28 am

GRRRRR O:| O:| was at my slimming world class last night and i was up half a pound and i don't know how. I'm so angry! i started in November thinking it would be a good idea to give myself a bit of a head start instead of waiting until January. The first few weeks went really well and by the time i went to class in January i was down a stone. Since then i keep losing and gaining the same pound its so frustrating I lost a stone in 6 weeks and the last 6 weeks i have achieved NOTHING!! I really feel like just quitting im sick of the dissapointment every week it really affects me. Im beginning to think i made a mistake starting in november and that i should have waited because now i am less motivated.
Im over eating salads for lunch when its fricken freezing out!!
and as for your one sitting at the scales with her sympathetic face oh its just a little plus >:o( >:o( >:o( i nearly pulled her over the table!! AAGGHHHHHHHHH

Hey I've been floating around the same 4 lbs the last 2 months but I figure over xmas etc, I'm happy enough. Just have a binge for an evening, dust yourself off and start again...that's what I've done! I'm nearly at goal now so the push is on, it'll be so worth it when we get there! Good luck! xx

Oh i feel the same. I think once i start noticing the weightloss myself i get back into old habits. Having a beer now tonight, which is very bad. And have eaten out 3 days in the last week.
Whats more frustrating is like you said, you have done all the usual things, ate the right foods etc and no weight loss?!!! Its a pain
Have you tried to do more exercise? I think this is the only way, as once you hit a certain weight you need to push yourself harder.

Read this .............Came across this excerpt in my travels... it makes sense though
:thnk
The scale
June 1999
by Harry J. Lefebre, M.D.

This may come as a surprise to most of you: the scale is the number one factor contributing to people quitting or failing at their efforts to control their weight, and yet it is the main focus for most people.

In our office, we weigh patients weekly, but after their weigh-in, I bet I spend a third of my time playing down the importance of the scale in an effort to help patients deal with their negative reaction to the scale. I have said to many patients countless times that I would have liked to have implemented my program without scale being involved, focusing instead on improvements in their behavior and feelings, as well as how well their clothing fit (i.e. passing the "blue-jeans test"). If I had set up this program eleven years ago without a scale, people would not have understood and most likely my program wouldn't have gotten off the ground. However, thankfully, through ongoing counseling and reassurance, a large number of patients have learned to look at the scale from a more realistic perspective.

Just think about how often you have stepped on the scale after a week of perfectly following your diet and vigorously exercising and find you have put on weight. Your immediate reaction: anger, frustration, despair, and thoughts of quitting. On the other hand, if you strayed from your diet a few times on the weekend and the scale went down, the lower scale weight would then reinforce your negative behavior. Therefore, in either case, your behavior is reinforced by an "unfeeling" machine that doesn't ask you whether you were wearing different clothes; if you were on your period; when your last bowel movement was; whether you were under a lot of stress; whether you drank more or less water than you usually do; whether you just engaged in vigorous exercise; or if there has been a change in the weather.

Any of the above will affect the fluid levels in our body -- keep in mind that 70% of our body is composed of water. I often describe the body as having its own water cycle (similar to that of the ocean tide). The tide comes in and the tide goes out. When we step on the scale, we are basically measuring at which stage the tide is. We could have an hourly tide, a daily tide, a weekly tide, and certainly a monthly tide (to which most women will attest with their menstrual cycles and the resulting water retention). All of these tides can be affected by the factors mentioned earlier.

The single largest factor in our daily, weekly and monthly oral intake is the water we drink. As a test, weigh yourself holding an empty pitcher. Then weigh yourself again with the pitcher filled with 12 glasses of water (96 oz.), which is the usual, optimum recommended daily water intake. The extra weight should be approximately six pounds. What if some of that water is retained over the course of a day? Naturally, the scale will go up. Next, try filling a large bucket with an entire week's supply of water. This should weigh over 40 lbs. This is the weight of the water alone that you would drink in a week, and should some of that water be retained, again, the scale will go up (even if you have lost body fat and your clothes feel looser). Looking at the above examples, some of you might think that if you retain some of the water, it would be best not to drink as much. The opposite is true. Remember, the more water you drink, the less you retain.

Another area where the scale affects most patients is when they are aware that they have put on weight (e.g. after a holiday or after a month has gone by between visits to the office). They fear coming into the office to weigh in and often continue to procrastinate day after day, week after weekThey feel guilty, ashamed, and worry about what we might think about their weight gain. Again, over the years, I have told countless numbers of patients that they do not have to worry about weighingin. I tell them that they should come back to the office for a friendly, encouraging visit and some positive reassurance. They can get on the scale whenever they are ready. Likewise, if, after repeated visits, a patient is still very uptight about the scale, we suggest that they not weigh in for a while and get them to focus on their positive behavior and attitude. I can't emphasize enough that the focus of our program is not the scale the focus is on you, and your behavior, attitudes and feelings.

The key to weight control is changing your behavior. Improving your behavior will make you feel good about yourself, leading to better compliance with your eating and exercise plan, which will mean the inches will disappear and your clothing will fit better. As a final measure of success, check the scale. It will take some practice, but one of the biggest favors you can do yourself to achieve long-lasting success with weight control is to learn to put the scale in its place and perhaps in many cases the best place for the scale is out the window.

Thanks luka, thats a really good article and is totally true. If i put on weight when i dont expect it or if i dont loose weight one week I am like an antichrist. all my clothes are fitting me better and my work trousers are all loose on me which has kept me back on track after the weigh in.

+1 on the dusting off & starting again - between October & January I was playing with the same few pounds - up, down like a bloody yo-yo. I finally got to 2 and a half stone off last week, and what did I do?

"Ah that's great, that's 2.5 stone gone, sure no harm now if I have the cans on the Friday night, the Chinese Saturday, the McDonalds Sunday, the Pizza Monday....." got totally complacent and have basically spent the week eating total junk like it's going out of fashion. And what happened? Up a pound and a half. So, basically, back to where I was IN OCTOBER AGAIN. Going to give myself this evening - make a nice dinner, enjoy it, and then going to sit down and do out my meal plan for the week and my shopping list.

I do this every single time I hit another milestone, it's like I'm trying to sabotage myself!!!!

Up the water intake & plan your meals. That's honest to god the only way I can do it. Was disgusted with myself this week but sure there's nothing I can do about it now, no point in punishing myself forever! Best of luck xxx :lvs

Delighted - I think it's good to treat yourself, get it out of your system and move on...glad you had a lovely night. Weightloss is an 80/20 effort...be good 80% of the time and you'll be grand. I find if I really start to deprive myself, then I really struggle, no harm in having a night off every couple of weeks!! Good luck! xx

Hi Ladies
I am a personal trainer and have been in the dance and fitness industry for 11 years. Firstly, PLEASE PLEASE don not give up! The start is actually motivating yourself to get up and go and make the change.HUGE congratulations on the weight you have already managed to shift. Do not get downhearted just yet, it takes a while for your body to adjust and it will fluctuate between muscle mass and body fat. (REMEMBER muscle weighs more than fat) it takes sometimes months for a change (scales wise).. So.. my advice to any new client do not go by scales at the beginning, go by your clothes and how they are fitting or ill fitting due to changes in your body. Judge by how you look in the mirror and how you physically feel. Why not try some fitness classes (varying your workouts)?? There is a class to suit EVERYONE, pillates or yoga for toning and shaping but not too high cardio. Zumba or body combat for a more intense (yet fun) alternative and many more. Don't be scared to try new things and most of all its a massive achievement you have made the effort to get fit, more than most people will ever do. Therefor don't be too hard on yourself, you should be enjoying all this exciting time in the lead up!
I also teach all types of workouts and give nutritional advice, I would be happy to give alot more advice and encouragement if you are interetsted you can mail me and I can help. [email protected]

That's brilliant - you just need to keep going no matter what...if you have a bad day/days then just dust yourself off and back on the wagon!! :)

That's great! I'm like you and have been playing with the same couple of lbs for the last few weeks! It's incredibly frustrating but I just can't seem to get back that motivation I had in the beginning! Like you I joined in November and have lost 1st 9.5lbs! I'm down 2 dress sizes but still want to go down another 2 but finding it tough going lately! Join us on the slimming world sticky. It's a great thread for a bit of encouragement or just a whinge!

In an attempt to kick start things for myself I registered for the women's mini marathon today. That gives me 16 weeks to get myself into shape for 10k. I registered as a jogger to try and spur me on a bit more as I could walk 10k tomorrow no problem but I want to be able to jog/run most of it! There's a place in town that rents out treadmills so I'm going to look into that and see how it goes for a few weeks and then I might invest in one if I'm making use of it. I did join a gym but my membership was up today and I haven't been there since before xmas so won't be going down that road again. I need something that's either a class or I can do here at home when the kids are having a nap.

Either way stick with it and when times get tough I find keeping a written food diary helps but definitely a meal plan and organisation are the key to success!
