My first attempt at running...

My first attempt at running...

Postby Polly2011 » Mon May 14, 2022 2:43 pm

I have been meaning to get started for a while. I used to walk a lot but over the last year or so I have really not been doing as much. With a half stone I would love to lose and not being at all fit, I decided to make an attempt at running, using the couch to 5k. I got good tips here and elsewhere before. I was able to do about fifty seconds out of each sixty...you know what...I feel great!! I thought I wouldn't be able to run at all. Anyway just wanted to say that, haven't been in great form lately and this cheered me right up today. Yay!!! :o)ll

Thanks a million. I know I won't ever break any records but am looking forward now to keeping it up. If I have to repeat the first week until I am running the full intervals, so be it. I am trying to be realistic about my level of fitness, which is not great, and take things at a realistic pace, for me. Thanks again. :)

I was always a bit scared of running and honestly thought i couldnt do it - ran for the very first time in Nov 09 & ran a marathon less than a year later so you never know what your capable of. Take it slow at first, stick to the programe & you'll be amazed by how much your fitness improves. Best of luck - getting back into to it again myself and only able for 2 miles at the mo!

Wow, well done on running a marathon! I can't imagine I'd ever be able to do that, but meantime, one day at a time. Thanks again and best of luck getting back into it. :)

Okay, that is week 1 done. I won't ever make it to the Olympics...but still am happy to have made the first attempt at running. I will have to repeat week one next week because I am still not doing the full sixty second run, but am happy to have made a start. :)

Thanks a million! I was smiling to myself today, at one stage, I had to start running right beside where there was a big queue of cars at traffic lights. I am sure I gave them a bit of entertainment while they waited! :yelrotflmaosmilie:

Thanks a million. Well done you! I am a long way off that stage but am taking it as it comes at the moment. I don't think I'd catch up with the elderly strollers either! :) It's very encouraging to hear that you have made that much progress in quite a short time. This is helping me through a bit of a bad patch, instead of thinking and worrying about work, I am thinking 'okay Monday is my next day for my couch to 5k'. Thanks again, and best of luck in the mini marathon. I will be doing it too, but am walking it. :)

Happy to say I am still doing this. Am being very realistic in relation to my lack of fitness etc, so have chosen to repeat week one. Happy days, am now doing my full 60 seconds run. Was tempted to not bother tonight, cos late home etc. But, it's only 30 minutes and I felt great after doing it. Thanks for all the encouragement here. :)

Completed my second week, still doing week one of the programme, and feel I am making progress, slowly. I like the fact that it is just half an hour. Weather was fantastic this week, I waited in the evenings until it cooled off, and it was very enjoyable. Have to decide in the coming week if I will do week one again or am I brave enough yet to try week two. Looking forward to it anyway. :o)ll

Hey there, just wanted to offer you some encouragement. You're doing great so far. I'm on week 7 of the plan and yesterday and Sunday I ran for 25 minutes solid. It's such an amazing feeling so keep up the good work and you'll definitely see the benefits, I have no doubt!!

There's never any harm in repeating a week - as long as you keep going out when you're supposed to that's great.

Thanks a million, littlesugarloaf! I am enjoying it, and am sticking with getting out and doing it three times a week. I am two pounds down since I started, and that is without making a huge effort as regards diet. I definitely would recommend the couch to 5k to anyone. I am taking it at my own pace, and enjoying it as a result. Thanks again for the encouragement. :)
