Looking for info on hsg

Looking for info on hsg

Postby Novemberpearl » Sun Apr 15, 2022 12:04 pm

Hi girls, have hsg next wk n just wondering what to expect-
is it painful, how long it lasts etc. appointment is for 7.30am
But have feeling they call everyone in for this
Time, have to take tablets an hour beforehand
So just wondering if I should take them at 6.30 assuming
I'll be seen at 7.30, just don't the ponstan worn off by time
I get called in! Am I worrying too much about it?

Hey I didnt take any pain killers at all for mine... it was honestly ok! its so quick, just a bit uncomfortable for a few moments. I would take the pain killers at 7am... they will last in your system a good while. Dont be worried about it, its over before you know it! xxx

Hi Novemberpearl, Sorry to be a killjoy I found the HSG very unpleasant :-8 . (NOW THE REASON I MAY HAVE FOUND IT SO UNPLEASANT WAS I HAVE A LARGE FIBROID AND MAYBE THIS IS WHY ALSO IT TURNED OUT I HAD A BLOCK TUBE)

Sorry I don't mean to scare you, when I did my research before the HSG every one said it was a breeze. I have only ever heard of one other person that found it very unpleasant. On the plus side it really is such a short procedure literally minutes and I had absolutely no pain after I felt a little bloated. I also found it very messy and I bleed after it, I would suggest day off work and whether you need them or not take pain killers.

Also want to add I went on the have a Lap and Dye and this showed both my tubes were actually open, my consultant said that maybe my fallopian tube went into spasm which also may have caused the pain and might explain why one of my tubes showed up as blocked when it was actually open.

Very best of luck with it!

Clomid 50mg X 6 Cycles, Clomid 100mg/Scans/Trigger Shots X 2 Cycle. BFN X 8.
HSG January 2011 (one tube blocked)
Lap & Dye Dec 2011.Both tubes open/ovarian drilling/slight Endo removed/Lge Fibroid
Feb-May ’12:IUI 4 Attempts all cancelled (poor response) Cycle changed TSI. BFN X 4
All treatment suspended till Endo sorted! May 2012.
21st July:Surgery with Hugh O'Connor for Fibroid & Endo Removal.

Fingers crossed for 2012.

Dont mean to scare you but I had the same experience as mrstobeabridesoon.

Dose up on painkillers and def take the rest of the day off work. On my second hsg it wasnt even near as bad so maybe it was just a case of a spasm with me as well.

On the plus side it is over so quick. And once they stop pushing thru the dye the pain stops immediately. I think if i had known this i would have been able to thol the pain a bit longer in the hopes that it would have cleared the blockage.

Best of luck with the test - and remember even if it shows blockages the test can be wrong and it can be just a muscle spasm so dont be panicing if it shows a blcokage

Thanks girls for your replies! Had the hsg this morning
And they said everything looks fine, came out not sure
If felt happy or annoyed cos still no answers to
Why we can't conceive!! I guess we should be glad there
Doesn't seem to be any reason why we shouldn't get pregnant
Hopefully soon!
I found the hsg very uncomfortable but no pain afterwards just
feel very bloated!

Thank God it's over and done with Nov'pearl, I was worried that I might upset you, thrilled it was doable for you. A friend of mine was TTC for 8 years and after her HSG she got her first ever BFP and has a fab baby now, so finger crossed all you needed was a good clear out of you tubes. :babydust:
