How did you choose your fertility clinic?

How did you choose your fertility clinic?

Postby iwantone » Mon Apr 16, 2022 11:04 am

Hi Ladies,

I have a Lap booked for may in the Rotunda with the likelyhood that we will need IVF as I have damaged tubes. I am not sure what will happen after the lap, I presume that we will be reffered to the Hari Clinic. Out of curiosity we went to the Sims clinic open day yesterday and am now in 2 minds as to where is the best clinic and what to do for the best. Can you tell me what helped you choose your clinic? For me its the time frame, have been waiting so long for the lap in the rotunda that i feel the waiting time in the Hari clinic might be the same amount of time (5 months) O:| where I can get a first consultation in Sims in 4 - 6 weeks? Both my own Gp and I have a relation who is a GP advised that they would stay with the hari clinic.

Also has anyone been for infertility counselling? I am having a hard time dealing with my ectopi and the fact I need IVf if i ever want a baby any input you have would be greatly appreciated. :wv :wv :wv

Personally I dont know if time frame for the first appt is really the best way to choose your clinic, its only a first appointment and its likely you will have many many others...
For me, one of the main reasons I went with my clinic was location. It was the closest to us. This is important when considering the many scans and appointments you will have to attend during your cycle.
From what I know over the years on this forum, Hari dont seem to have standard waiting times. I waited a long time (3 months) for my first appt. Others have only waited a matter of a couple of weeks. I was unexplained, I often think this is probably why I wasn't seen to be a priority case. I know others had egg reserve issues and/or male issues and were seen more quickly. Do ask for a cancellation appointment.
Hari provide counselling as part of the service (included in the cost of your treatment). They have several staff counsellors, and you must meet with one of them as part of your preparation for treatment. They are available on demand to you. This is something I don't think any other clinic in Ireland provides. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Sims have a very good reputation as well. I have several friends who have had successful pregnancies with Sims. Of course, I know a few Hari babies as well, my DS being one of them!
Good luck with your decision! :babydust:

Like Feather, I've one Hari baby and another on the way. I was refered to Hari and never really did any research on the others, I found them very professional, friendly and helpful.
You could be in for a good few scans, so you want somewhere that is easy for you to get too and stress free. For me, I live in North Dublin, so I didn't want to be on the M50 in rush hour for my scans, stressing out, so Dublin city centre was easier for me to get too.
There's a lot of factors you need to take inTo consideration, but it is a personal choice and you will hear good and bad about them all.
Best of luck

Thanks Ladies, after reading back on my original post, it seems i didnt explain myself properly. I understand all the different factors, I think the waiting is just getting to me at the minute. Having a hard time being in limbo with my future in someone elses hands. I am going to see if i can find an infertility counsellor before I decide what will be the best opton for us. As i said previously I am finding it such an emotional rollercoaster already and we havent been told that we need IVF yet but will probably be likely. My mind is already racing ahead and thinking about all the options.

I have nothing but praise for the staff in the Rotunda, they looked after me extremely well in the 4 months i had to attend after my ectopic and in no doubt they are the same in the Hari Clinic. I do not know anyone with a Hari baby yet but i do know someone with Sims Twins and another on the way.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. :wv :wv

I choose mine on convenience/location like feather, you could be popping into the clinic for a five minute scan, I truly feel for you re needing support/counselling, I have a great husband/ friends/ family also was a qualified counsellor myself with a lot of friends still practicing and offering me great support yet there are times I feel so alone & after nearly 30th months of trying it is hard to believe it will ever happen for us. Besides infertility issues you have suffered a huge loss, I hope you get the support you need.

Also to add fertility treatment seems to just drag by, I have been with my clinic for a year now and I have only been moving forward in the last four cycle has four monitored cycles including two cancelled IUI's. Trying another IUI cycle this month. This could be just the norm in my clinic?

Very best of luck with your choice of clinic.

You could go to the Rotunda private clinic and Dr R has an infertility clinic there every Wed (the wait list isn't very long) Also, as he also works in The Hari, you are essentially seeing a Hari doctor and therefore already working alongside the clinic.
This is the route I took, I never had any dealings with Sr M in Hari, just Dr R and then after all my tests came back and nothing, it was ivf for me and it wasn't that long a wait at all.

Hiya, I can't help you on the clinics as I am attending Cork but CFC have a fertility counsellor and I really found that helped (I need IVF also and it came as a terrible shock). I only went for one appointment but would have no hesitation in going back, if I felt I needed it again. Maybe you could just ring Sims or Hari and ask who is on site with them, the counsellors might be able to see you on a private basis. I also had been having acupuncture for a couple of months before I saw the counsellor and that really helped as well, it's de-stressing anyway and the therapist asks how you have been since the last visit so that was kind of therapy in itself. Best of luck :wv

Hi I wantone. I have been to a infertility counsellor. In all the time TTC it was the best money I ever spent (besides on the cycle that got me pregnant :o0 ) I tried accupuncture, dieticians, hypnotherapy (which I also found good), the foresight programme, kinesiology, the lot!!!....and after a MC and DH getting seriously ill in the middle of the ICSI cycle which ended in MC it all got too much for me and the clinic i was attending recommended this counsellor. She was brilliant, she used to be a fertility nurse so was really au fait with the fertility side and how traumatic it is. I couldn't reccomend counselling enough to anyone who is having a hard time dealing with infertility. I can give you my contact but it's in galway so you probably dont want that, I am sure there are also brilliant ones in DUblin (actually I only read your post so pther girls may have already given you info :-8 )
Take care... You will get there. :xox

edited to say.. I also just picked my clinic as it was near me, and it was the one my GP sent me to. I think unless you have a reason not to attend the one nearest there it's easiest, because you will be in and out of it a bit when you are cycling.
4 No. IUI's + 3 No, ICSI's = 1 little miracle!

Thanks Mrs2babridesoon, I have a great support too, but been feeling lately that people are sick of hearing about our situation. No one really understands whats its like untill you have been there. Its hard to feel alone, i know have been feeling that alot. Looking for a counsellor at the minute. I really hope your next IUI ends in a BFP for you. :babydust:

Amberjack, Dr R is who is looking after me at the minute. I was under the impression that there was just the Hari Clinic and they looked after all public and private patients. Thats why I was thinking that the waiting list would be long, I know someone who got the go ahead for IVF in november and hasnt started yet. This person is a Public patient and gets a free round of IVF. I thought that everyone paid for IVf apart from medical card holders? Hopefully after Dr R does my lap and if we need IVf we wont be waiting too long. Looking at your tickers has really given me hope. Its great to see that IVF does work and makes me feel a bit more positive about the road ahead. :action31 :action31

Ivytheterrible my husband thinks that if we can spend all the money on the IVF that spending a bit more to help me deal with how im feeling is worth it. I have contacted the counsellor that was at the open day at the S*ms clinic so waiting on a reply :) I am also getting accupuncture in the hope that it can dry out the fluid in my tube. am not feeling too hopeful for this as I have hydrosalphinx and nothing can be done for that. She also has me on herbs to get the blood flowing. It is very relaxing but my mind is what needs sorting out. :duh: The accupuncturist is my cousins mother in law and shes great, sometimes its like being at a counsellor. :hyper:

Oneyear, was the Hypnotheraphy any good? I have been reading up about it recently. What do you have to do? I find the accupuncture good but it doesnt really reduce stress for me, it does make me sleep great after my treatment. My accupuncturist said not to come back for a month which i thought was funny.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me and your help is great, feeling a bit more positive already. :action31 :action31
