stimming scans in SIMS, who does yours??? help!!!

girls just wondering when you went for your scans was it a nurse or doc that did them, i had my first scan yesterday and a girl did it over seen by beppe the nurse this "girl" dont know if she was a nurse or doctor didnt even know the difference between my uterus or ovary and at one stage was concentrating on my bowel, but i was fairly chilled as beppe was directing her, but she had to tell her what way to use the wand.
then after she was filling it in wrong on the screen, again beppe noticed and corrected her, but then i started thinking last night i dont want someone who doesn't have a clue doing my scans, as i want them to be very sure about the size and development of my follicles so they can adjust my treatment accordingly.
or is it a case they nurse does the scan pass on all the measure ments to the doc and then they let you know later what does to take, im kinda a bit stressed about this now, and will have no problem saying sorry but i dont want her doing my scan, or do you think they just have a trainee doing the first one, and ill have someone that knows what there doing next time?????

The nurses do all the scans. You were probably just unlucky that you got a trainee that day. I've never had a trainee for any of my scans through all of my TSI's or my IVF. During my TSI's I was actually very lucky to get Luda (she's a doctor and head of sonography department) but she's now doing consulting too so I'd say it would be very hard to get her. For all my IVF scans they were all done by nurses, all of them very good at what they do, some more chatty than others and will give you more info. But if you want extra info just ask cause they don't always divulge. The nurse will take all the measurements do your bloods and then in the afternoon all the results get reviewed by the doctors and if any changes need to be made to your meds the nurse will ring you and let you know.

Dr. L does mine. You can tell the receptionist you want her to do them when you make your appointment.

Hi jewelbride, I'm not attending SIMS but from what you are describing, I wouldn't be happy with that at all. A fertility nurse has always done the three scans I ever had. At the first consultation, the doc did come in to see womb lining etc on the screen. Second time was only down reg to confirm there was no cysts and third time, the nurse did the scan and left the room to confirm her diagnosis with the doc. When she came back, she explained I would be on increased meds next time so I presume she would be the one adjusting the meds, in association with the doc.

Did anybody at SIMS explain why this person would be in the room or if you minded? Being honest, I just want the scans over with ASAP, it's not the nicest thing in the world and one of my ovaries lies higher up so the wand has to be adjusted to see it and it's a little uncomfortable. I don't think I could cope with a novice there, poking around (sorry :-8

I think a phone call to ask why this person was present and if it's standard practice, would be in order. If you are not comfortable, you don't need to make a big deal, just tell them you would prefer to be on your own at the next scan. God knows, we are paying them enough!

i think i will ring tomorrow, as i want to ask if i can take tummy cover with being on steroids and asprin, as ive crohns and i can then ask if i will have a trainee doing my scan again and say i dont want them doing it, i would have no problem with this girl being in the room i just dont want her doing my scan!!!!!

JB: I've had different nurses for all my scans.......all brilliant ladies. I'd say I've had been scanned by nearly everybody at this stage. Also was lucky to get Dr U for one of my Saturday scans.
For one of my early scans I had a young nurse who perhaps was not quite as experienced (had not got her scan count up) and she took extra care and time counting my follies . I was in the scan room for quite a long time and my OH thought there was a problem because I was in there so long!
She was lovely and thanked me for my patience. Don't forget the nurse you had also had Beppe (who is one of the more experienced nurses in there monitoring her) so in a way you were really lucky to have got Beppe overseeing your scan.
Please don't be stressing out, but I guess if you are really unhappy/stressed about it then do ask for a specific nurse.

Jewellb, from what I remember Sims tend to put the more junior nurses on the earlier scans and then after your first or second you would have a more senior nurse or doctor. As one of the other girls said Beppe was overseeing everything so she would have made sure everything was ok and apart from the baseline scan the scans would then be reviewed by a doctor (the nurse will usually pop off to consult with one). I guess the nurses have to start practicing somewhere so I suppose the baseline scan is probably the best place to start, having said that, if you are not confortable or happy at any point please don't be afraid to speak up, it's your cycle and your money.

I was thinking maybe the junior staff would do that one if any? I suppose I'm just worried about things being missed I'm sure I'll relax a bit more after my next scan tomorrow and see what progress my follicles are making!!!

this is what wreaked my head in sims. everytime i went there i had someone different doing my scans telling me something different. ffs its an emotional time and they just dont seem to take that into consideration at all. felt like the next person on the converer belt post of the time. if i were you id explain nicely that i would prefer if someone qualified did my scans from now on. your paying enough money to have at least that

Seriously jewel, I've always had Dr. Lyuda do mine. I just ask them when I ring up and make my appointment. There has never been a problem with this. I have never had a nurse do my scans.
